I am using verbatim DVD+R DL media. Im using a Sony 810A DL burner. I followed this guide by Alkohol http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/256436
completely. And have been making back ups of different DVDs successfully and will play on my DVD player in the living room but, not my PS2 a slim model i bought not to long ago. It plays on the previews but once im at the DVD menu it freezes when i hit play. Can anyone please help? I thought that if it is booktyped to DVDrom it should play on my ps2.

Possible cause could be the media used. I believe the PS2 is more media sensitive than some stand alone players. You should ask this question in one on the PS2 forums. Let the experts there guide you. :)

Booktyping to DVD ROM helps insure compatibility with drives due to DVD ROM being the universal player format. That doesn't solve all playability problems. Your PS2 is recognizing and playing the discs, it's just freezing up when you select the play command. I suspect an error other than what booktyping was meant to solve.

You said the backup would play, but not completely on the standalone. Does it just get to a certain spot and quit? Did you check the filesize you have recorded against the size of your source?

As for the PS2, that may be a question for the console game forum.

Just out of curiosity, is the firmware up to date on your burner. Some drives are receiving firmware updates to handle the newer DL media. I just did a flash on my HP and the Verbatim DL was on the list for better support. I'm not sure about yours, but it's something to check.

Sorry, I thought i suscribed to this thread. It wasnt untill i came here to look for similar threads posted since this that I found mine got replies.

Im upgrading my firmware all the way from 1.0a to 2.0d. Thanks a lot for this advice.

Also, im going to make a thread in the ps2 forum since it is the only player that wont play my DVDs. And it freezes on play at the main menu.It reads everything up until then. Every DVD every time. But it plays all the originals perfect. Thanks for the replies. Ill be checking this topic too. Ill be burning a new movie with the firmware updated in the mean time. Thanks again.
