burn speed problem

I want to burn at 4x with my verbatims which to to 16x. Sometimes i can choose 4x and sometimes there are no other options other than maximum. What can i do to configure this?

There is no real need to burn those discs at 4X. 8X, 12X and even 16X will all give excellent results. Burn a disc at one of the faster speeds and then check it with Nero CD/DVD Speed Tool. You'll be plesently suprised at the results.

Do you have a blank disk in your writer at the time when you select the speed? If not it won't give you much of a selection. Is this a Nero question BTW and burn at half speed. I have burned over 2000 movies on verbatim's and I can recopy every single one of them at half speed 8x.

with shrink...after analysis i go to encode and when the options window comes up, i go to the burn settings and in the speed box....sometimes it gives me options between 2x-maximum.

As JOHNSTARR said, it should only do that when you don't have a disc in the writer. If the disc is in there, it should read all possible speeds for the disc.
