Simple question, what does that mean, and how do I fix it?

Means the drive either has no disc in it , or cannot read the disc or the size of the disc ( i.e If the system is fat32 it will not recognise a dvd, as a dvd is 4.7gb where as fat32 can only read upto 4gb )

So simply if you have no disc in the drive put one in if not post back

All you should need to do is put an empty DVD in the drive before you request it to burn.

For example, put disc in drive then open burning prog and start burning.

Anymore probs post back dude

@ FrankyDay hi :)
before we get to drastic with your pc, and start to rip it to pieces
lets have a bit more information ie.
1..the make of your drive
2..the way you are going about your backup (shrink.. decrypter..nero) or what your preference is.
3.. media you are useing (if you haven't already got it, download dvdidentifier from the link in my sig and run your disc's through it, then post the id)

it doesn't matter whether your system is FAT32 or NTFS. either format will do the job

with the small amount of information you give. i will hazard a guess that it could be a firmware issue where your drive is not recognizeing your media
so more info please and we will take it from there

I'm having the same problem and it's driving me crazy. I'm using an LG GSA 2166D external burner with DVD Decrypter. Nine times out of ten I can rip my DVDs with no problem, but sometimes Decrypter won't load the disc. It just says "Device Not Ready (Medium Not Present)". I thought maybe it was copy protected in a way that the laser can't pick up the first file so I blacked out the inner protion of the DVD to be ripped with a marker. Didn't help at all. Is there a better ripper or something I could try? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
