Everything used to work just fine.

My tools were DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink, AnyDVD, TDK DVD+R Media, and RiDATA DVD+R DL Media.

I could back up any DVD I encountered just fine. If I just wanted a ghetto copy I would opt for the 4.7g size. If I really wanted it as pristine as possible, then I would go for the DL 8.5 size. Either way, I never realy encountered an issue unless it was a flawed coaster.

Now, the present. My tools are still the same (maybe just the latest version of AnyDVD). I wanted to back up my copies of Doom, Domino, and Slim Susie.

For Doom I opted to use the DL Media, because I wanted it to be a nice as the original.

Here's the problem now. When I'm done, the backup copy will not play in my Pioneer DV-563A player anymore (that's the DVD player with the TV, it's not a computer DVD.) I've tried this five times and different ways (ripping to files or ripping to .iso)

Yet, if I take that same backed up DVD, it'll play in both my laptop and desktop machines just fine.

I can't, for the life of me figure out why things no longer work. The only variable I know that has changed my system was the game Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. There was a loading bug with the game that would crash a system and the resolution was to install some codec that would stop it from crashing due to a sound bug.

Can a codec on my desktop affect the backup to not play on the DVD player? (It simply recognizes it as no disc) and yet the computer plays it just fine.

This one is stumping me and I'm looking for any possible guidance here from some of the masters.

This player has a bit of a history with +R DL discs. I'm not sure how old it is, but you might try getting newer firmware from Panasonic and seeing if that solves your issues.

I actually upgraded it with the latest firmware tonight (It's a pioneer) And that still didn't solve it. Strangely enough it will play my previously burned DL Media just fine. It's anything current that is failing.

I'm just attempting to troubleshoot to see if I have a bad spindle of RiData (can the entire spindle be bad?) or is it something on my desktop that got altered and causes this.

I guess i can buy a single DL Media of a different type and test that too.

Oh damn, sorry I typed Panasonic. DOH!
You've been using these RiData right along? Personally I would switch and see if that helps. These aren't that great, and like I said your machine can be picky. Good work updating the firmware though. It's a shame it didn't solve anything.
