Hi guys - id very much appreciate any help. I bought the flip top cover with the original swap magic disk. I installed everything fine according to swapmagic3 website. But, it doesnt mention what to do with the little parts they sent me. Incidentally, they sent me the wrong parts for my model machine - which they are replacing tomorrow.
But this still doesnt help me - I wont know what to do with them when they arrive. The installation guide on swapmagic website doesnt go into installing these. Ive tried putting the disk in anyway and the machine is having trouble physically picking it up - so I assume it is something to do with that area. The guy in the shop wasnt very helpful - althogh he acknowleged that the site didnt have instuctions what to do with the little parts.
I havent a clue what to do next. Please help.

Hi guys.....just a quick update - I managed to get a PS2 original game to load on the arm - but it was making some horrible noises. I can only load it though the flip top manually - it no longer loads through the tray. The swap magic disk looked like it was going to load (the playsation logo came up) but it just kept spinning and when it slowed - made some horrible noises.
At other times - it is saying no disk. Still havent a clue where the parts are meant to go. Please advise

Hi mate, cheers for replying- they are small plastic parts - isnt
this normal with swap magic flip top? Otherwise - wouldnt they
be universal to every machine? I cant give you any more info than
that as I dont know where they are supposed to go myself One
set is marked v-9 to v12 and the other they are sending me
tomorrow v4-v9 (I think) It is the old style ps2 as opposed to
slimline one.
Here is where I bought the product from:
http://www.memtechsolutions.net/product_info.php?cPath=1_2&
products_id=48&osCsid=f67344f5e5ff90479b0865629c5b9f44
Im really confused - nowhere else ive seen these parts
mentioned. Yet they are very specifically seperated for different
machines - mine is version 4-7.

What do the parts look like? My Fliptop was one whole Piece
All I had to do was take the PS2 apart and screw on the new case... and replace the white round piece that goes in the fliptop lid with the one that was from my orig PS2

http://www.clearxbox.com/site/ is where I bought my Fliptop and Swapmagic

As you can see from the pic the fliptop should be all one piece

You didn't order a flip top and a pair of swap magic disc with tools did you.
You need the discs and only one of the other two - a flip top or tools not both.

Thanks for replying - I completed all the steps in the picture you posted. I replaced the white disk etc. When the DVD game is placed in the tray - it has trouble loading and makes a horrendous noise - although I read in another thread that the position of the white disk can have a bearing on noise.
The parts are very small in black plastic - I will take a picture of them and post later.
If it turns out these parts are unnessecary (im not sure the guy at Memtech has a clue!!) - it still leaves me with a machine which is making a horrible noise that I havent been able to get booted with swap magic disk yet. Is your machine noisy and is there any other reason which might be causing this issue? Also - do your DVD games load through the tray or do you have to physically click them onto the wheel?
Many thanks

Connolly - that may be the case. I may have been sold the tools as well as the flip top cover. I phoned memtech yesterday and kinda trusted the guy with what he was telling me in regards to what I needed.
So are these parts unnessecary with the flip top cover? And is there any other reason why the machine is having trouble mounting the disk from the loading tray? And is it so darn noisy when slowing down etc?
Really appreciate the advise chaps!!

Does it make noise only with backups? or originals too?

If it's when playing backups it could be the media.. If it's low quality media the laser will strain and make noises .. If you're using DVD+R Media and your PS2 doesn't like +R media it could be that also or a combo of the 2...
Could be the Speed you're burning the backups (No Faster than 4x recomended and I would stay away from burning at 2.4x if that is what the media starts at. burn 4x first)
If you're going to use DVD+R media BOOKTYPE (Bitset) the media to DVD-ROM
http://www.k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php

there are a Lot of things that can cause reading errors .. Could be the Firmware for your DVD Burner if it needs to be updated...

What Programs are you burning the games with
DVD Decrypter ISO Read the ISO Write is the way to go.......

another thing and 1st thing I would check is that the screws that your screwed in the new case with are too tight... you want them loose.. enough to hold the case on and that's it.. If the case is on too tight it can make the disc not spin correctly..

try cleaning the laser with Rubbing Alcohol and a Q tip

and if you're still having problems with even the orginals you can try a laser adjustment..

Cheers mate - il try that when I get home tonight. Il let you know how I get on. So it looks like the parts are unnessecary? Memtech clearly dont have a clue. Il havent got as far as trying DVD-R media as yet as I havent got swap magic to load. But, everything, including noise, was fine before I removed the case so I dont imagine the problem is anything other than the loading bay from the new case.

I would agree with the above. Try unscrewing the cover a bit. This helps sometimes when the tray doesn't slide smoothly.

To cut down any rattle noise when the game is spinning apply some weight to the flip top. A stack of games will do.

Yeah if Swapmagic isn't even loading .. 1st thing to check is the tightness of the case....

Hi - im now seriously regretting opening the dam machine. The little magnet in the white thing that clicks on the laser has dropped inside. Apart from the horrible noises - it now refuses to boot original games. It has booted the swap magic disk a couple of times and nearly booted a back-up copy. But im getting 'please insert a playstaion format disk message' on screen. I tried putting the original cover back on but to no avail - horrible noises and an inabilty to spin the disk persist.
Why oh why didnt I just get the hard drive. Looks like the ps2 is only fit for the bin.

I have a blue fliptop case partially installed on mine. The problem with mine was the white disc thingie mine came with. It seemed to work horrible with games. So I took the one from the original PS2, and threw away the one that came with the fliptop, and now my PS2 games run normally, and don't make those horrible sounds.

Just make sure you keep the original PS2 white thingie that holds the disc in place. It works better.

good to go!!
