Okay, i couldnt get the xecuter 2.6 bios to flash, unsure if it was the way i was making the cd, the media or anything! anyways, i seen on the flahbios screen unlock hdd/lock hdd, so i hit unlock hdd, when i booted it without chip, it gave me error 5, hdd unlocked, so i thought i would hook it up to my pc, replace files and such, well, i plugged it in with power and ide, while pc was paused during bootup and then the pc shut down, great! so i took it out, put it back in xbox, now it wont turn on if i have power hooked up to it, but if i just have ide plugged in, no power, xbox turns on! is this stating hard drive is fried now??????

i dunno but you definately did the wrong thing in hooking it up to the pc while the power was one because during a hotswap your supposed to use your xbox power not your pc's.....you need to flash that chip and buy a new HD......if you want me to send you a ready to burn image of the bios just pm me........

I have done a few hot swaps now and i have had to use the power from my pc or it would not work.

@ sesko
i have no idea why your box would turn on with the IDE cable and no power cab;e, that is just weird!!

how does that work then its not a hotswap because your supposed to keep the power in from the xbox and just unplug the ide from the xbox HD and put the one from your pc into the xbox....how do you plug it into the pc thats not a hotswap....
@shinnster
he can power it on but he would definately get an error message....

I had a power cable from my pc going to the xbox HDD. once it booted to the MS log screen i pulled out the IDE from the xbox HDD and plugged in one from my pc. The xbox hard drive was constantly powered up so it is a hot swap. if i used the power cable in the xbox then my pc never recognised the drive.
