My ps2 won't play backups no more.

I've been using the cogswap or memory card exploit to play my backups lately, but it hasn't been working now. The backups i made are fine using maxell and sony d21 dvds. They used to play perfectly until now, it won't even boot up. The screen with the Cogswap just stays there most of the time. Sometimes it boots up RE4, but rarely, only when i move the ps2 around. Swap Magic 3.8 won't boot my backups since it goes to the browser most of the time or gives me a blank screen like Cogswap does sometimes too.

So is this a laser problem? It could read original ps2 games perfectly. It won't read Swap Magic DVD 3.8 Coder. The Cd version can only be used for special boot such as exploit and Zone Loader which doesn't seem to work for me when playing backups.

So any other way to play backups without sending the console to Sony?

should i replace the laser myself? i think i have a version 4 ps2. what websites sells ps2 lasers?

Try cleaning and/or adjusting the laser first.
