What would be the best thing to convert a .mkv into without loosing the quality?
These are suppose to be HDTV rips someone placed into the .mkv format, but I can't say I like it, I mean unless there are some players that will handle it nicely on the pc to watch?
Plenty of PC players. mplayer, VLC, Media Player Classic, any dshow based player (ie. Windows Media Player) with compatible filters installed, etc.
For HDTV you have to wonder why they went with mkv. Native AVC? VFR video? Non MPEG-4 compliant audio? ssa subs? Fact is that there may not be another container that can handle it. In which case to remux, you would need to convert/change something which would mean loosing quality.
By "don't play the .mkv videos good at all" do you mean just slow or something? Could be that they contain HD AVC which can be quite CPU intensive to decode, no matter what container they are in. If so you might want to look into CoreAVC. Don't think they have a demo available yet though.
Simple one step.... Not sure. Maybe try alltoavi or something like that.
