I'm curious and I would like to post this question and someone might have to solution to it.

Since memory stick duo max. capacity is only 2GB and PSP also uses USB to transfer datas, is there a way to connect the PSP to a portable harddisk (using USB cable) which have a bigger capacity and uses a software in PSP to access the contents from the harddisk and play ISO games, listen to MP3s & watching movies from it? If its possible, then we can save tons of games, music and movies in the harddisk itself without using the memory stick duo.

Can someone please study on it.

Sony are planning to release 4GB and 8GB memory sticks (but for 8GB you need FW2.7 or greater to use it).

There is no way to attach a hard disk of a capacity greater than 4GB through the memory stick slot on any firmware less than 2.7. This whould be the easiest way to implement a hard drive add on. If you use the USB, this would have to involve complicated rewrites of the firmware.

However there is a 4GB external Hard disk for the PSP by Datel. See here: http://www.engadget.com/2005/10/07/datel-4gb-psp-hdd-and-battery-...
(But I would recommend waiting for the Sony 4GB memory sticks, as this hard disk makes the PSP heavier and gives it a deformed shape, possibly making it difficult to play games)

astro, no its not possible to do it the way your thinking.
Whats possible is to carry around say the portable 80gb hdd and when your bored you connect your psp to it and transfer the movie/music/game to your psps memory stick so basicly its portable storage device, needs to be a specific hdd not your ordinary ext hdd.

Sometimes to keep things peaceful you need a Piece thats Full

You can use an external wirless HDD enclosure and a laptop drive. Some bloke did it. He used a 20gb HDD. It conneted them both via his wirless router using custom firmware for the router.

This is it:

Or there is this:

Hope this helps!

Bet Sony will not improve their firmware to be able to access music, movies and game directly from external HDD without the use of memory stick as this will affect their sales for memory sticks.

Hope that some hackers can find ways to make that possible (e.g. some emulators or something) and that will be great! Imagine running PSP with 80GB HDD space... WOW!!

By the way, I would like to know the price of 2GB Sony Memory Stick Duo Highspeed selling at your location? I just got mine at US$32, is it expensive?
