Why is my CDR/DVD player slow!

Okay, this one is probably painfully simple, but i'm a noob and a girl, so give me a break.

I've been having trouble with my CD-R and DVD player runnning really slow. Burning even slower. They're LG 52x24x52x and Liteon DVD rom ???

Dont know what i did, but if someone can help me recalibrate them or something, that'd be great. Thanks :)

okay, thanks. that was helpful to some degree. but now that i've uninstalled my drivers, my pc didnt reinstall them again. what to do!
