Taiyo yuden did make some of the Verbatim discs. Not sure of which format and speed rate, but they should say Made in Japan. Creeky's burned a slew of them.Mostly the brits across the pond got those babies.

Verbatim and Taiyo yuden uses the same dye-Advanced metal azo dye.
Taiyo yuden is made in japan. Verbatim is mostly taiwan/singapore/and india.

Even though they may no longer be made in japan,Majority of verbatim in the 8x and 16x speed range are made by Mitsubishi Chemical corp. They use strict quality control for their media, from whatever country they are produced.

Now the older 4x speed verbatim is another story. Lots of ricohs/mitsubishi/and even cmags in them.

You should be ok with those dash 8x verbs from taiwan. They are still right up there in quality with genuine taiyo yuden of japan.

hmmm.....

most likely only a bad move in respect of they're not Verb Taiyo's...they may well be genuine Taiwan Verbs which would be fine, however.... tell us more, without divulging your eBay username etc....

also, try dvd identifier from here - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id... and run one of those discs thru it's identifier and paste results here

Run Dvd Identifier on the media (or a similar tool),
And lets see what the REAL media code is.
That will tell for sure, but
It sounds like you MIGHT have gotten ripped.

Cheers!

thanks for the replies downloaded and ran dvd identifier
results were- manufacturer name- mitsibushi chemical corp
manufacturer id-mcc 02rg20
so i take it that i was sold them under false pretences?
below is his ad
This disc is exceptional for a number of reasons. Verbatim have entrusted the manufacture of the disc to the world renowned Taiyo Yuden factory. These discs carry the DVDINFO tag of TYG..02. Couple that with Verbatims high levels of packaging and quality control and you have what is probably one of the best quality DVDR discs in the world!
as i can see now they are not tyg..02

they sound original Verbatim made in Taiwan. i'd hazard a guess that the eBay seller was called 'Silver-Tek' or similar however that seller sells FAKE TY discs, i don't know if he sells Verb discs and calls them TY discs

no apologies necessary, just don't want you giving up your eBay username etc on the forums..

right.. i found the bid in question i think, the discs still appear to be genuine Verbatim, but obviously not Verbatim Taiyo Yuden. so you got very good discs but not Verb TY. i'll give you a tip as you seem to be in UK, try www.svp.co.uk (can't recommend many others as i don't use too many sites).

at least you know what you'll be getting with svp, eBay is great for a lot of things but not blank DVD media, whatever someone's feedback is...just Never buy discs off eBay

no worries, just haunt the media forum, all you need to know is here :)

with svp all you need to keep in mind is the shipping charge is something like £4.99, but you can buy up to 10kg of stuff with that one shipping charge so it's only economical if you intend to buy enough stuff to absorb the shipping charge. very good site though
