you can indeed merge the 2 sides into one movie (argh those annoying pointless flipper disks). this is what you need - http://www.videohelp.com/forum/archive/t222659.html

Main PC ~ Intel C2Q Q6600 (G0 Stepping)/Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3/2GB Crucial Ballistix PC2-8500/Zalman CNPS9700/Antec 900/Corsair HX 620W
Network ~ DD-WRT ~ 2node WDS-WPA2/AES ~ Buffalo WHR-G54S. 3node WPA2/AES ~ WRT54GS v6 (inc. WEP BSSID), WRT54G v2, WRT54G2 v1. *** Forum Rules ***

That's a great guide that creaky posted. Unfortunately, you won't be able to keep menus like you want. I don't even think there is a way to keep menus when you reauthor a flipper disc.

To bad that guide above wasn't good for you. Same movie and everything! Anyway, you can totally do this, but it's not exactly easy. I've used pgcedit, and IFOEdit to join flippers and 2-disc movies many times. Both keeping all menus as well as re-creating simpler menus for those that I was too lazy to bother with replicating exactly.
DVD Remake can do this and WILL keep your menus, but it will not join the two sides together so that they play consecutively.

I've done Goodfellas as well as two other flipper discs. I used this guide:

If you still have the files after using InfoEdit, open FixVts and drag any VOB into the program and choose FULL DVD.

my self i put my backup of goodfellas on two disks is much easer and better quialty it is to big of a movie to smash it togeather, and if you are doing it cause of cost the disks are not that much any more, but if you just don't want to get up out of the chair to change the disk that is your choice. but if you have a dual layer burrner that would be the way to go, that is just my 2 cent's

I have merged many titles to one 4.7GB DVD disc as well as converted two sided disc to one 4.7GB DVD disc. If you have Nero 6 or 7 Recode2 "Remake A DVD" this is extremely easy. But as mentioned "Main Movie Only" Some people here have used SHRINK to get similar if not the same results. Just back the titles or each side of "GOODFELLAS" (Movie Only)to your C:HD (I recently did this title myself) Open Nero Recode 2 "Remake A DVD" Locate the A & B side files on your C:drive Select each file. Nero will align each file. Check slow (quality) burn, and thats it. I've done this with "Sleepers" "Rosewood" I've taken Blade 1&2, "NightMare on Elm St" 1&2 and placed them on to one 4.7GB disc all with "No" noticeable change in picture quality.:p
