almighty7,

As stated above, the memory error being produced by shrink has really nothing to do with a memory or a not enough space problem, it's a copy protection issue. Shrink is no longer updated so it can't handle newer copy protection techniques placed on current DVD's, so it's going to need a little help with getting the job done.

If you want to go the free route:
As suggested above, download and install DVDFab decrypter and use it to rip the video files to your HDD, once it's done, open the files created by DVDFab with DVD Shrink and proceed as usual using the program.

Here's a thread that should help;
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/336414

The procedure used here should work for any movie you're trying to backup and is giving you a problem with doing so.

i dont have a copyright protection error these are copies that i am trying to copy which i normally do with roxio but it wont work niether will shrink or dvd decrytper they all show different problems but none will copy the dvd to disc or hard drive ive never encountered this its not a copyright though its not a virus and its not spyware shrink says its a lack of memory dvd decypter just freezes and roxio only finds it as a data disc so there is something screwing up my programs ive tried different movies but they all result in the same failure

almighty7,
In your first post, you didn't state that what you were trying to do was to make a copy of a copy. You stated that you were getting memory errors while using shrink, we here at AD would logically assume it would be due to a copy protection issue that shrink is unable to handle and would advise you based on that assumption. You need to be clear as to what you're trying to accomplish and what you have done so far in trying to get there if you want the correct advice, so take a good look at what you may have done incorrectly before placing blame on anyone else.

Having Roxio and Nero installed on the same PC is perfectly ok as long as you only install one of the two packet writing software that they come with (Nero's INCD or Roxio's Drag to Disk not both or it will cause problems).

Things to try:
I know you stated that your HDD isn't full, but make absolutely sure your HDD isn't getting close to being full, if it is try and free up as much space as possible because in the process of making a copy information is cached to a location on your HDD first before the burning process begins, if there isn't enough room, the process will fail. You could also try and increase your virtual memory (page file size). Did you reboot the PC and try it again, a reboot will at times solve the issue. Is the computer set up for hibernation, if so DISABLE IT.

Since you state you have nero:
If your trying to make a copy of a copy and are having problems doing it, this is how I get it done without ever having a problem so follow along.

How to Make a Copy of a Copy Using Nero

You successfully backed up a DVD, do you need to use DVD Shrink again to copy the already copied DVD? Nope, Nero allows you to make a identical copy of the already decrypted copied DVD. Insert the DVD your trying to make a copy of in your DVD-ROM +/-R /RW drive and let it be recognized.

1. Run the nero burning rom application from the smart start menu under application. The wizard screen should pop up on top of the main Nero screen. On the left hand side, you may need to tell Nero if your making a "CD" or a "DVD" copy. Of course you would be making a "DVD" copy, so simply click the down arrow and select "DVD" as your choice. (Illustrated in the screen shot with the red arrow.) Screen Shot Below:

2. After you have selected "DVD" as your preferred compilation type, now click the "DVD Copy" icon. (Illustrated by the blue arrow.) Screen Shot Below:

3. Now for configuring the tabs at the top. There should be 4 tabs at the top. "Image", "Copy Options", "Read Options", and "Burn". I will take screen shots for some of the tabs instead of explaining each one completely.

4. The first tab, is the "Image" tab. See Nero makes a image of the burning process and what files are attached to it. Then you simply load that image into Nero and burn it. (Nero does it automatically if you are using "DVD Copy" compilation.) On the "Image" tab, the first box is the "image file" box. This is where you want Nero to save your "Image". ( I always save my image to the desktop, cause I delete it right after I burn the copy of the copy.) Click the "Browse" button to the right of that box, to choose the destination for the image. (Whether it be on your desktop, in your "My Documents"folder, where ever.)

5. Below that box is box to put a check mark in if you want Nero to automatically delete the image after it has successfully burned the image to disk.

6. The "Hard drive speed info" is next on that tab. I don't know what it is, so I don't even bother messing/changing it.

7. The next tab is the "Copy Options" tab. Here you can select how you want Nero to copy. Although burning with the "On the fly" option is faster, it is not recommended. Next option to change on the "Copy Options" tab is selecting your source drive. (The drive with the original copy.) Then under that is the "Read Speed:". You can select what you want here. I have mine set at "3x (4,155 KB/s)" to eliminate possible read errors from reading to fast.

8. The next tab is "Read Options". (Just going to post a screen shot of mine) Screen Shot Below:

9. The next tab is the "Burn" tab. (Again I'm just going to post a screen shot of mine.) Screen Shot Below:

10. Instead of maximum, set the write speed to 4x, 6x, or 8x (try to set it at no greater than 1/2 the rated speed of the media), click burn and your done!

Note: If you have only one combo drive, nero will prompt you for blank media when it finishes caching the image before the actual burning process can begin.

@jcats420

Here's a guide that will take you thru the process and expain why virtual memory management is important. Set the initial size and Max size to approx 2.5 times the amount of your physical memory amount.

I have 768MB of physical memory installed, so the initial and Max size is set to 1920 (MB).
