Could WiFi be faulty for me because of this?.....

I ordered my WiFi from the U.K. before it became available at my local Future Shop here in Canada which is just a company owned by Best Buy and pretty much sells the exact same products. Could my WiFi be messed up because it maybe only workable in Britain or am I just screwing it up. The WiFi will not connect to a network from what I'm seeing when i press repair on the wireless connection in the network connection section. Do I have to set up a network and if so how. I tried to before and what happened was my normal internet became unavailable somehow because i think it was just trying to connect to the wireless internet alone. I real am having huge problems with this thing even with the WiFi Problem Solving threads and that Code junkies site.

They are all the same, IF you used that wifi in japan it would still work, I'd try calling the helpline.
