Trying to figure out which has the better DVD inkjet printing surface:

Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Verb surface is slightly better, IMO.

@teflonmyk..... does Verbatim have silver inkjet printables like TY? I love the holagram look! I'll have to check out Verbatim's printables if you say they are better!

I second teflonmyk's opinion. I've printed about 300 Verbs and 100 TYs. The Verb surface is smoother and holds the ink better, the TY surface ends up looking kind of grainy or as if it has super-thin lines running the length of the disc (that's the best I can explain it). I'm sticking with Verb exclusively from now on.

As for silvers, the only ones I know of are the TYs and they look great. Unfortunately they don't make hub-printable silvers (inkjet anyway, I don't know about thermal) so you can't use them for every label.

I haven't seen Verb silver inkjet printables as of yet... I only use the white inkjet printables... mostly TY. The Verb surface is better fresh out of the printer, but after a light coat of Patricia Nomick's, the difference is negligible. For that reason, I use mostly TY...

....... mine come out great... not grainy and super clear.... maybe you're not enhancing your disks in a paint program like I do.

and mind you this is a bad scan! LOL

I for one prefer verbatims print surface over TY's. I am a little partial to verbatim's since I've had some minor playback issues with TY's and never do with the verb's.

If anyone is useing an epson printer it would be well worth your time to get an ink bulk system. Check out printonadime.com I have printed over two hundred dvds and covers and still have half a tank left. only $45 for ink.

I haven't tried the ty,white full hub printables. The verbatim +8x are very good, and identical to the Maxell +8x full hub inkjet printables.

They still have that satin look to them, and the lighter covers don't fare as well as the dark ones.

I've been using Ty-g02 shiny inkjet printables and they looks sweet. These are not full hub,but still give a 3D look to them.

It'd be nice if they had glossier white full hubs, and full hub shiny inkjet media easily available.

I leave my Epson print settings on Normal. I found that the resolution of the image has more effect than the printer settings...

I've looked into those, but I only print the discs (for storage in the aluminum cases from supermediastore and meritline) and not the covers. I easily get over 150 discs per set with the replacement cartridges that I get from privateabacus24-7 for less than 20 bucks for a set of all six! I may still invest in one of those systems !!!

EDIT: off topic @ IHoe:

Have you experimented any with ProCoder2 and DVD-RB?

I have used HC in RB and I quickly went back to CCE! I'm amazed that others have switched saying better quality can be had with HC..... maybe I'm doing something wrong?! Anyway, I haven't experimented, except that one time with HC in multiple encoding proccess (which took soooooooo long and I didn't notice anything better). I never experimented with ProCoder2. is it better? what settings do you have for it and maybe I'll try it out!
