I just purchased a new BenQ 1655 dvd burner. I now need help as to what program or what step I need to take now to get this started. I am looking to take my dvd's and make backups. I am sure I need some sort of ripping or other type of program but lost as to what step to take now. If any one can help me I would be very happy and thankful.

dvdfabdecrypter, dvddecrypter, and dvdshrink. all of these are free and work well. slysoft has a good package too, but its not free(there is a free trial). slysoft has AnyDVD and dvdclone2. this is probably the easiest and most reliable around. check under my sig and the other members for links to guides that will tell u how to use them. after that try your hand at a few, and if u cant get the hang of it then come back and ask more questions.

Congrats on the Q and welcome to AD!

A lot of those benq drives come with Nero oem 6.6.0.14. It's got some good programs that'll come in handy.

If yours did,it'll have Nero burning rom/express labeler-for your lightscribing/and Nero recode2 on that disc. It'll even have Nero showtime to watch your dvds.Just don't download Nero INCD.

Nero can't pull off encryption, but another free program called DVD Shrink will.Except with some of the newer releases.

Nero recode2 is from the same author of DVD Shrink.Another option in case you run into trouble.

My main programs: DVD Shrink to rip and compress, then autoburn with Nero. There's a couple settings you may have to change, but after that-you'd swear you were only using 1 program.

Newer encryptions: DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter can't handle these, but a background ripper called AnyDVD will.It run silently in the background, therefore no extra step involved. Also works for cd encryption and can set drives to region free. Also has a rip program for damaged dvds. Not free, but a free 21 day trial at slysoft.com

Dvd decrypter is a more aggressive ripper and burn engine. It will not compress.File mode is for DVD-9 to DVD-5 via DVD Shrink. Mode ISo is for DVD-9 to DVD-9 or DVD-5 to DVD-5-a 1:1 copy so no compression. Since majority of dvds are DVD-9,equivalent to dual layers, you'll still have to use DVD Shrink to compress. That's why I rip with DVD Shrink and autoburn with Nero.Eliminates an extra step, and adds to the process time.

Get some Dvd rw media to practice with because you may screw a few up if using r media.

Once you get it mastered, try the quality media.Find the right format that suits your burner and all your stand alone players.Quality media will prevent a lot of issues, maily stand alone player playback quality.

Take a good gander at the bbmayo guides in gamename's sig. Any questions after that, just come on back.

Welcome to AD, if you look in my signature you will find DVDShrink and DVDIdle which will get you to DVD Fab Decrypter. These are very easy to use and if you look in the guides at the top of the page you will be able to rip and burn with ease. I just started a few months ago and have had very successful burns. One more thing if you are just starting out is get yourself some good DVD media, like Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, or Sony and Fugi made in Japan. Supermediastore is a great place to buy your media and the prices are good. Sony made in Tawain seems to work okay too, you can find it on sale usually at Best Buy or Circuit City. Good Luck, in your future indevers and also check out CDFreaks.com they are another helpful forum, READ READ READ! These forums are the best...

DVDFab Gold lets you make perfect quality DVD movie backups - the smart way! Backup your entire DVD - including menus, trailers, and special features - onto one or multiple discs.

New Feature: DVDFab Gold now can copy DVD-9 in 1:1 mode, and remove all the protections (CSS, Region Code, RCE, APS, UOPs), then burn to a double layer DVD-DL. This creates a perfect copy without any restriction.

I use this all the time and it has never failed me.
