I just exchanged my faulty PS2 for a new one. As soon as I saw the inside packaging was different I had a suspicion this thing has something new. Just a hunch.

But it turned out to be true. I want to use Swap Magic 3.8 with MagicKeys II. The tool that is needle-like and goes in near the hinge of the lid now has NO SPACE to go in. The metal thing is dipped at the front making the hole too small for tool E. I could get the tool in there on my previous PS2 that I bought only 2 weeks ago (but was faulty anyway, so returned it), but not gonna work on this one. Heres a pic:

If you have seen this before, please let me know what you did to overcome the problem?

I'm new to this PS2 thing. But I'm frustrated already. My MOD idea now is to cut the lid into two sections. One section would be just a little piece that will have the rear hinge part. It can stay closed forever. That eliminates the need to use that dificult tool E or whatever you know it as. Other two switches can be done with the Tools A and B as usual. Now the rest of the lid can open and close without reseting the system.

Maybe someone has done it before. I want to know how hard it would be to open up the system and seperate the lid to cut it as I mentioned above. Please let me know if you have done this or have opened up the system. I am planning this destruction because I don't think using the Tool E is an option anymore.

a pic of the cut:

Is there a gap to the left of that thing? If so, you could maybe give a try to my Cardboard and Straw MOD(link in my signature). If you can't get the straw through, there's not much else I can do for you as I have never seen a PlayStation 2 with anything like that.

Nope, just checked. Theres no gap. Looks like it in the pic cause the pic is so big :o

But yeah, these two metal parts are also now unevenly set and its imposible to align the key to go in there.

PS. I saw your MOD idea.. genius! straw is harmless and soft so its safe. Damn I'm so unlucky with this PS2 business.

It looks like there isn't(thought that when I first saw the plate on mine, which is straight), but there is one. My PlayStation 2 has a plate that's straight, and there's a VERY narrow, almost invisible gap between the hinge and the plate. Try my MOD(unless you already did), and when you reach to the step of the straw, turn on your PlayStation 2 with a disc inside. If the disc spins after putting the straw in, then, you don't have to do what you want to do to your lid. But, that plate may be the one of the Version 14's variants, so it could be that you have a Version 14B or 14C(which, according to what I'm seeing with your PlayStation 2, is harder to MOD). I don't know.

By the way, make sure that before you put in the straw, squash it with something heavy(maybe a hard-cover book) until it's flat like a piece of paper. Then, you can stick it to the left of the plate. If it goes down, there's a gap. If it doesn't, then do your lid thing.

that is exactly what my siters v14 looks like and the FLATTENED straw worked. was tight to get in but worked.

Video games don't affect kids, I mean if Pac Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching on pills, and listening to repetitive music...

if your gonna cut the lid your gonna kill your warranty and if thats the case not to be a smart ass but the tape mod makes more sence than hacking the lid.

I have made a guide on making a working exploit for Version 12 to 14 PlayStation 2. It uses 3 methods, CD, Memory Card, and USB memory stick. Check it out.

It works. I use the CD method, but I believe that the easiest method is the USB Memory Stick method. Heck, for all I know, you could use all of them. Try it out, tell me what happens(in that thread, of course).

Hey I just found this page today, I did the cut setup, it works but you have to make sure to leave the cd guide and push down the little button on the front near the power button. I have been able to start using exploits and everything.

If you don't have a skilled hand for heat cutting or can't cut it with little vibration DON'T DO IT!
