Let's say you have not changed anything, and that you've been attending to the basics (e.g. defrag, lots of memory), try burn at lower speed (2-4x).

Good luck!

I think the power calibration thing pops up mostly due to media problems. There is an area on the disk that's used to test the laser to make sure all's well. In this case I don't think your laptop burner likes the media all that well. Laptop burners are not as robust as the others.

What brand of media are you using?

As scf_au pointed out, burning at less than max speed might help out here. I asssume in the end the burned disk played OK. Is that correct?

Coulda sworn I answered this already...I did, I did. @zx9r, please don't multipost as it confuses the people trying to help you and you may get your answers twisted as well.

Ok my bad on the multipost. And I forgot to say in my original post that the disc came out of the burner untouched even though the log said successful burn. The disc had nothing on it. I've been keeping everything pretty clean and defragged. So I don't think that should be it unless there is something else I need to do. I'll try running it slower and see what happens there.

So slower speeds didn't work. The main buffer fills up right away, but the device buffer never moves. And as for media...Power DVD 5.1. But lately it has been acting up. It runs every time I put a DVD in. Even when I have InterActual sent as the default. Or if I set it to 'Prompt me each time to choose an action' it starts playing the DVD on the Cyberlink player. I tried removing the program only to find it was also my driver. Anyone have anymore ideas throw them this way. Thanks.

Please tell us the brand of media, i.e., disks, you're using for burning? If we can eliminate the media, then it may well be your burner. If you download DVD Identifier (link in my signature below) it will provide the media code and allow for the IDing of the manufacturer.

MCC is very good media. If you put a commercial DVD in the drive, does it play correctly? Can you burn a CD?

Ok I have Verbatim DVD+R 8x brand and the Drive will play a Normal DVD. The drive did burn a cd no problem. and I gave a blank DVD to a friend and he was able to burn a movie that I've been trying. With no problems.

See if you can use one of his blank DVDs and see if it will burn in your burner. These laptop burners are problematic and picky compared to standard burners. Is your drive still within its warranty period? Do you have any RW (rewriteable) media available? It's always good to keep some on hand for testing. See if you can burn data (some files) to a DVD RW. Have you tried using ImgBurn or Nero?

I don't have any DVD+RW and I'm downloading Nero right now to give that a try.

Ok I tried ImgBurn and the DVD+R from my friend and still no luck. I have no clue what is up. If the cd burner works then the DVD should right? Maybe I need to take it in to the shop and have them look at the burner. Let me know if there is anything else I can try.

Make sure all of the connections on the back of the drive are seated securely before you make a trip to the shop. I'm thinking that it might be about time to look at one of these...

zx9r, I'm out of ideas. I would still get a RW disk and see if you can burn data to that. If not, I think something is wrong with the burner.

I use laptops for the most part but I don't use laptop burners because they are fickle and finnicky. LOL. Seriously, you might consider using an external USB or Firewire burner in the future. Just buy a regular burner (I recommend BenQ or NEC) and place it in an external enclosure (I use Plumax and Bytecc). I don't do much burning when away from home so it works for me. The premium for a laptop burner is usually enough to pay for the external setup (drive = $40, enclosure = $30).

Laddyboy,
Thanks for all the help. I'm just going to take your advice and go to an external burner. Thanks again...
