Once again hello. I'm having another little difficulty. I hooked my I/O burner to my Panasonic cf-48 laptop and burned a DVD to my HDD and now when I try to do an ISO to the I/O I get a message that I need a Win2K compatible DVD decoder. Where mighten I find one of these little doodads? This is the first time I have tried the I/O with this laptop. It works fine with my Toshiba and WinXP. Thanks. Spark

Do you have service pack 2 installed & are you running Fat32 or NTFS? The reason I ask Win2k is Windows 2000. XP should not have that problem. If you are running Fat32 convert to NTFS. If all else fails you can get a free decoder from http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/1045531002/1 or you can try VideoHelp.com

HI Syxguns: I'm running Win 2000 Pro with SP 4 and NTFS. No problem with XP, works perfect. Well, as perfect as XP can work I guess. Thanks, I'll see if the free decoder helps. Spark

Syxguns: I went to that site to download the MP Classic and when I went to install it it said Media Player 9 series which I'm already running, so I didn't install it. I checked the properties for the install icon and it said it was version 6.0???? I'm a little confused here. Does WMP 9 series have a DVD decoder and should it be working or do I need to install this 6 series in order to get the decoder? I had this problem with the same Win2KPro on my video desktop computer and I think I installed Nero to get the decoder. I don't want to install Nero I just want to get a compatible decoder to work with what I have. If I remember correctly the Nero didn't work well, I can't remember why. Thanks for your time. Spark

Try this free decoder:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Video-Players/NVIDI...

Let me know if that will work for you.

Have you tried running an update at windows? Maybe the update will include the decoder you need. Another question I had was, how did you burn the original DVD? Did you use Shrink, DVDDecrypter, DVDFab Decrypter, AnyDVD, PgcEdit etc.? Your DVD may not be region free because you did not decrypt it to your region.

Take for instance the fact that I have AnyDVD. Before I use Shrink it is decrypted to my region. Maybe try that. I am not sure what the DVD was. Maybe if you give me the title I can walk you through step by step.

I'm totally updated on player 9 series, so that is not it.

About the burning of the DVD, I sept since then and can't remember for sure if I burned it to my drive and then when I went to burn it to a DVD on my I/O external drive, that it told me that I needed a DVD decoder.

About the region. I know about this and have set it to region free, or at least that is what it is at when it asks me about the region.

Seems like it shouldn't be this difficult to get a Win2K compatible DVD decoder does it? Maybe they all come with some program and it is not just something I can get.

I'm going to try that site you mentioned. I've been busy so have not been there yet. I'll let you know. Thanks for your efforts. Spark

Syxguns: Here is a note to myself so if I ever lose my player capability I can just go here and save myself lots of pain. I thought I might put it on here in hopes that someone will save time. If they just make sure they have these three things they can play, I would think, any external DVD player using Win2KPro. Looking back it was easy as pie to get it going, or maybe I should say simple. 20/20 hindsite. Anyway I wanted to thank you for getting me going on this. I had to go off into a few other forums to find the codec but you were the gradient needed to get me into orbit. Thanks again for your time. Spark

The following is the codec that I need to be able to play DVD Movies with Win2K. Do a Google search, find it and then install it. Make sure it is exactly the same. It works fine and plays the new I/O Magic DVD burner and player on the CF-48.
DVD Decoder for Win2K <klcodec253s.exe>

I'm not sure but I might also need the Win Media Player Classic (Version 6.4.9.0) also because that is what I played the movie with. It would not play on Win Media Player 9 Series. And also there is another compressed file in the folder in Programs Files which is
"mpc2kxp6490", might need this also and might have to find it with google search. There you have it. Spark. Fairbanks, Alaska. May 6, 2006
