I have not had any trouble with my DVD burner till now. It will through the whole process of burning and right the end it gets hung up. I'm still using the same disc I've alway used which are Maxell Dvd -R and I burn at 4 speed. I also cleaned my dvd drive and that still did not help. Here is my error report. Thanks

Here's some suggestions:
Quote: Recorder: <LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1673S>Version: JS07
Firmware version is a few behind. The latest is JSOD. This may help with the write error you receive.
Here's a link:
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2026Quote: Physical memory : 510MB
Free physical memory: 141MB
Try and free up some memory. No multitasking and shut down any unnecessary processes.
Quote: Nero API version: 6.3.1.26
You can also update your Nero to the last version of 6 that still autoburns with shrink - 6.6.0.18
ftp://ftp.us.Nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe
Let us know how it turns out - good, bad or otherwise!

Mely4fun,
Welcome to the forum. Below are some other errors that correspond w/ what binkie7 stated. Firmware update might help the burner recog the blank media as it does not recog. it now
Insert empty disc to write to.

Firmware updates are pretty simple, but take precautions:
Make sure no discs are in your drives
Also make sure no thunderstorms in the area. You do not want to lose power when performing a firmware update.
Go to that link that binkie posted, click on the blue JS0D and it'll as you to save it or run. Click save the zip folder, remember where you download it to-I create a folder in my documents and call it whatever that update is,let it download, and close out.
Now locate that Zip file/open it/and follow directions to the final T. It's very similar to downloading any normal program. Do not stop during the update process. There is still a slight risk to firmware updates, but I go along with car.mike and binkie: You're blank media is not being recognized properly with your older firmware.
Firmware controls the writing strategy of your burner and the media you are using. All media has codes called MID codes. These codes tell the burner how they should be burned.

@Mely4fun
Try the firmware update - your drive is still not fully recognizing the discs - you're getting the same error.
But a new one has popped up - power calibration error .
So start with the firmware - and we can take it from there if you still have problem.
Updating the firmware is really not that bad - follow saugmons suggestions. It doesn't take very long at all.
Let us know how it turns out - good, bad or otherwise!

Glad to here the firmware did the trick for ya!
So the samsung won't read or play them now?
The firmware may help. This dvd rom it a bit old and may be another reason. Could need the lens to be cleaned.
Did anything change at all when it stopped playing them?
For the firmware there different ones for this drive. Is the pc a Dell, HP or Compaq?
Also see what version this drive has - look in Nero ToolKit>Info Tool. Pick the samsung as the drive and in the drive tab there will be a field for firmware version.
