DVD time/size question

I'm looking to start authoring some DVDs. Before I start getting ahead of myself, what is the most time you have fit on a DVD and how did you do it? Right now all I have is a bunch of short clips and I didn't know how many I can fit on a 4.7 disk.

Most of them are AVI, so I thought about combining them with Virtual Dub or should I try to use DVD Architect to fit them in.

Any help/ideas? Thanks in advance!
