PARK RIDGE, N.J., May 5, 2006 ? Leading the charge toward the next generation of optical disc-based high-definition media, Sony Electronics has begun shipping its 25GB single layer Blu-ray Disc? recording media with AccuCORE? technology. In addition, a dual layer 50GB capacity disc is set to debut in June.
?Sony knows Blu-ray technology like no other company,? said Mike Lucas, director of marketing for Sony Electronics? Media and Application Solutions Division. ?Coupled with our uniqueAccuCORE technology, we expect our Blu-ray recording media to take the high-definition experience to a new level of performance.?
Sony?s AccuCORE technology, which was first integrated into recordable DVD media over a year ago, has been re-engineered for Blu-ray Discs to deliver enhanced reliability and durability.
Sony?s Blu-ray media also supports a 2x recording speed, which provides a high data transfer rate of up to 72 Mbps, making it ideal for high-definition video recording and data storage applications.
Which burners currently out on the market will burn to blu ray discs? The software is catching up, but I have yet to see a multi drive that supports DVD, blu ray and/or hd dvd.
Just like CD's and DVD's, they are going to try to rake in the big bucks while they can. Having competing high definition formats (blu ray -vs- hd dvd) should bring the price down quickly.
When evolution selects its agents, it does so at a cost, makes demands in exchange for singularity, and you may be asked to do something against your very nature. This force, evolution, is not sentimental. Like the Earth itself, it knows only the hard facts of life's struggle with death. All you can do is hope and trust that when you have served its needs faithfully, there may still remain some glimmer of the life you once knew.

As there seems to be some interest in these media, we thought we would like to show you some photos of the retail packages that you will see when you visit a retailer or see them online.
For those of you hard core media freaks that are curious what to look for, you can see a close up of the 25GB BD-RE packaging front side and the back of this 2x media right here. Then if you like, you can view the jewel case inlays front and back. Then here we have the inside inlay screenshot. Here is a shot of the media itself, front and back.
Now, you can take a peek at the less expensive *coughs* write once BD-R packaging and media. Special thanks to Staff Review Coordinator Jan70, who has already snagged some of this media from the manufacturer, and provided these pictures for everyone.
