hi there.

ok since reading the forums, i have now defected to using Taiyo Yuden (verbitum)

i have a lot of back ups, ive checked all the previous media i have used and there all on RitekGO5 disks. i understnad these are good, but obvisouly not the best.

big question is it would a hell of a lot of money to back up all the disks again, should these be fine. i am very carefull with disks, and dont lend them out becuase i hate them getting scratched.

the big problem i am facing is that know i am using this new media should i back up again.

help much appreciated, cheers damo

A big portion of my back-ups are Sony DVDs, which still play very well for me. The only ones I backed-up again are my Memorexs'...threw those away. So I would say unless you're having problems with your movies you should just keep em.

@damo_red...in my opinion you have your movies backed up on the best media possible...i myself have tried using verbatim but they dont play well on some of my friends stand alone players...whereas the Ritek media seems to play on any dvd player i've ever tried them on...so i would not waste my money on verbatim's if i was you.

A lot has to do with the quality of your burner.

This burner quality is why some members have trouble with Rite-G05 and other members have success like Movies27. Quality drives will put out higher quality backups. Then you have the stand alone factor. They too will like,or dislike certain media and therefore get a bad rap for it. I look at it to as how My burners and stand alone players react to them. Ritek is some good media.

Here's something you may want to try:

Try reripping some of those older Ritek-G05 backups back onto your harddrive using your normal process.

Rip to harddrive, but you can abort the burn. If you can successfully rip them to your harddrive, you are ok. Otherwise you'll most likely get crc errors during the rip.If you get that crc error, then something is wrong with them.

Sony08D1 are made in japan and taiwan. The japanese ones should have been decent, not sure about the taiwanese ones. Sony does like to use the same exact MID code for their media from several different countries.

Example: Sony04D1-Made in taiwan and austria. Huge quality difference
Sony08D1: Japan and taiwan
SonyD21 for the plus 1x-16x: Taiwan and Japan. Still decent, but not sony/fuji ty quality.

Stricly japanese sony for me. Japanese fuji are very hard to find in the plus format.

Re-ripping backups: The only issue I have encountered is when I tried to re-rip a few and had crc errors. These were the backups that I left on autoburn and auto shutdown,so I used 2.4x burn speed on MCC-004 verbatim.

I bumped the burn speed up to 8x and issues were gone.
