I was trying to find out how to hook my laptop (which has wireless internet) up to my PS2 and Ive had so many people try and help me to get it work and ive got no where so far. Then I came across this thread:

I really would be so obliged if someone could help me out. Im getting the same problem as that guy, the whole DNS server cant connect lala But the thing is I really cant connect the PS2 directly to the modem, I have to do it through the laptop, and I see that ice monkey explained about you cant have two TCP/IP connections running at once because Windows ICS wont allow it right?
Well I also see that you can make another subnet too allow it?
Or is there some other way I can get this to work? So my situation is ive got a main comp sending internet wirelessly to my laptop in my room and ive connected the PS2 too my laptop using the correct cable, it picks up the connection but fails on connecting to the DNS server. Can Anyway please help me get around this? Ive read through alot of threads but cant seem to get the answer and instructions im looking for. Thanks Alot

so the way you have it setup is:
modem --> router ---wireless--> laptop ---crossover cable--> ps2 ??
what's the details on your router and both laptop connections?

Yep thats the setup, the connections currently look like this:
And 1394 connection does nothing, its now disabled. So ive got the wireless connection enabled for internet sharing and auto IP and DNS while for the local connection to the PS2 ive entered:
192.168.0.1 for the IP
255.255.255.0 for the Subnet mask
and 127.0.0.1 and ive changed these settings a few times to no avail.
The Router is a belkin54g.

I don't think the ps2 should be 192.168.0.1 'cause I have a belkin (wired) and that uses .0.1 as the default address for the router. Also, what's 127.0.0.1? is that the dns server for the ps2? 'cause that's wrong seeing how 127.0.0.1 is usually reserved as an internal ip address. Give me exactly what the IPs of the 2 network connections on your laptop are (open a command window and do an ipconfig /all command this should list the info)

I did try 192.168.0.4 before and I used 1.1.1.1 for the DNS to no avail. The IP for wireless is automatic and currently is 192.168.2.2 and the local area connection is the 192.168.0.1 which Ive just changed to 192.168.0.4 again. The Subnet for the wireless is 255.255.255.0 and gateway/DHCP server is 192.168.2.1 and the DNS servers are 203.2.75.132 and 192.142.0.51, but if its automatic dosent it change everytime you disconnect? Well anyway thats all the current details? btw thanks for replying

you can't just grab any numbers and use them as dns server IP etc. Well, it's been a while since I've done this so we might have to try a few things.
for now do this on the laptop
enable ICS (internet connection sharing)
wireless: leave as is
local area network (network card) change to the following:
IP:192.168.0.1 subnet:255.255.255.0 gateway:192.168.2.2 leave dns auto
on PS2
run network setup and choose to enter settings manually and do this:
IP:192.168.0.2 subnet:255.255.255.0 gateway:192.168.0.1 dns on auto is possible if not then try the 203.2.75.132 and 192.142.0.51
try all this out and if it doesn't work we'll take it from there.

Ok ive got a problem I can enter the IP and everything for the local area connection but it wont allow me to do a automatic DNS?
all the other information is entered :)

Ok before I went to auto setup after entering those details on the PC for the local area connection and it actually did everything automaticaly, I played hardware arena online and everything but then when I changed disc to battlefield 2 and killzone it failed on the DNAS connecting to DNS server, then I went back to the access disc and did network diagnostics and its failing on DNS test again :/
So I entered the details for the PS2 too no avail, but at least it was working before. When you go to the option configure external devices IP, what should that be?
Also what should be entered here:
Ive tried to re auto setup again but its not allowing it now for some reason.

As you have probably noticed by now I really haven't visited this forum recently. As for your problem, I will need to know what internal IP range your router is currently using. Disregard any of that service stuff you are currently working with, that's for making services on your PC available through the Windows Firewall.

What is the internal IP address of your Router (the one you put into the web browser to manage it)?

Um im still not sure what the ip is for the router its self. I only know what the IP is for this end of the line. Because I think the router reconfigures its self each time?
Sorry my knowledge isnt too great with networking as you can see :/

Oh Ok, its currently on automatic so it does change each time i think. But right now the IP is 192.168.2.2 and the gateway is 192.168.2.1 and the subnet 255.255.255.0

1. Re-enable the Local Area Connection you showed in the screen-shot above:
2. Assign it an IP Address of 192.168.0.1 subnet mask 255.255.255.0, no gateway.
3. Configure the PS2 manually. Set it's IP Address to 192.168.0.2 subnet mask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.0.1 and the dns server to 192.168.2.1 (yes, the router).
If all of that doesn't work, open a command prompt and run this command: "route print" and post a screen-shot.

Ok ive entered all the info into the PS2 and the Local area connection.
In the local area connection its now allowing a auto DNS, so what should I enter? the routers DNS?

DNS does not need to be configured on the Local Area Connection although you could specify the router IP (192.168.2.1) if you would like.

I had to turn of the router so the IP changed too 192.168.2.3 so I edited that in place of the existing one and it still failed on the DNS check, also what should I enter for the IP of the external device on the PS2, in the settings section?:

Does your PS2 network setup disc have ping and trace router utilities? If so, try a trace route to any website and see how far it gets. Also you can try running the network setup wizard on the PS2 while running ping 192.168.0.2 -t on the computer and see if that command generates any replies while the PS2 is searching for a connection.

never mind ... i went and bought a switch ... it was 10 bucks at bestbuy (on sale) lol so now i have Modem - Switch - PC
- PS2
