Hey, I just baught a DVD burner (NEC) from newegg and about 200 Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's (originals) and im going to start backing up some DVD's, problem is the DVDs I want to back up are Region 4 (Brazil) and my DVD players Including my Xbox 360 are all US region, What I want to do is, Burn those Region 4 DVD's to a DVD-R but Region Free. How can I do this? I dont even know how to burn a DVD, dont I have to bypass its encryption and security? With what program? Whats the best way to backup Region 4 DVDS to Region Free DVD-R's??? can someone layout the steps or just the programs in order.

the easiest way to do this in my opinion would be to download any dvd + clone dvd2 from slysoft.com. they are both free for 21 days and will do all you are asking.

What you were advised to do is go to slysoft site and download 2 programs, AnyDVD and CloneDVD...both free for 21 day trial. AnyDVD will remove any copy protection from your DVD and you can also change Region code.

CloneDVD will then back up your DVD...there is a guide in my sig by bbmayo that will help.

There's a bunch of encoders and transcoders that will shrink dual layer DVDs to fit the single layer DVD5 format. Also, the AnyDVD mentioned will make the Region 4 discs region free, region 1 or whatever you want. DVD Shrink is good freeware which will trancode DVDs. You can try out the 21 day trial for CloneDVD 2, InterVideo has a trial for DVDCopy 4, Nero has the Recode in the Nero trial. After a few months of the retail (when the trials have expired), if you don't want to buy, there's still the DVD Shrink. ;) Most of the DVD backup software nowadays will target DVD5 or the DVD9 (DL).
