I recently flashed my Drive to the 1.39 Firmware from the Dangerous brothers. All seems to be well.

However I recently bought some of the ritek discs as mentioned in the title(RITEKF1 Media type) and my drive will not burn them any higher than 12x

Here is the drive informtion as seen by DVD Decryptor:

Any ideas why this may not be?

For optimal quality in your burns with DVD Decrypter I have been told that you should only burn at 4x.
It does take a little longer to do but thats the way I do it.

Just my two cents.

ok that may be a fair point but it doesn't explain why my DVD burner is not burning these discs at their rated maximum.

I really just want to find out why this is happening and whether there is some issue with my firmware.

hi :)
most media max speed rateing is for the the tranfer of data. for the transfer of video it is reccommended to burn at half this speed
4x data= 2x video
8x data= 4x video
16x data= 8x video
haveing said that, if your drive is up to date with it's firmware, the drive will do it's usual check off the media in the drive and if your set for max speed it will choose it's optimum burn speed,(not it's max) and will over ride the max speed of the media and burn accordingly
@ GETaklu hi :)
decrypter will burn quite happily at any speed you want it to

gurnard,

I was pointed to a guide for Decrypter that told me to set it to 4x because it is better for quality retention.
That is the only reason I brought it up. :)
I have burned a little over a hundred movies with Decrypter and really like the software, however I am sure that I do not understand how to use it to it's full capability.
This is the guide that I use and that was pointed out to me by another AD member.

Thanks for the help.

Klu hi :)
as with all guides, they are there just for that reason, "to guide"
as drives and media get better and faster, then we can take these things a step faster. in fact some off the faster media like Verbatim 16x are now showing better results at a higher burn speed than at the slower speeds 4x and below.
even the guide by "bbmayo" (a highly respected member) suggests
Quote:
i would recommend you select 4x and definitely don't go above 8x
it is open to a little leeway
but it all boils down to the same thing
what ever works for you best on your particular set up, is what you should stick to

I guess I wouldn't know the difference in quality if I did burn them at a higher speed.
I am kinda new to all of this and there are so many different ways to do it that I get a little overwhelmed by it.
I don't really have the extra money to buy any of the programs, so I depend of the freeware.
