This guide explains what to do with vegito_93's PlayStation launcher(full credits to him for the app). Here's what to do:

1) First off, you need the following things:
-Action Replay MAX(V 3.36 was used)
-MAX Media Creator(included with Action Replay MAX)
-1 blank CD-R(Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, or Sony)
-CD Loader ELF(found here: http://www.geocities.com/jjax1975/CDLOADER.zip)
-Cog-Swap ELF(found here: http://console.iscentral.net/index.php?go=downloads&cat=6 at the bottom of the page)
-PS2 Exploit Utility(found here: http://console.iscentral.net/index.php?go=downloads&cat=5)
-WinRAR(to extract the compressed files)
-Alcohol 120%(to burn the exploit disc)
-USB Memory Stick(to put CD Loader)
-PSXLOADER.ELF(vegito_93 has the link in one of his posts)

2) Now that you have all you need, un-zip all the files you downladed with WinRAR and launch PS2 Exploit Utility.

3) Here's what you have to do for each of the tabs:
-Title.db: nothing
-Loader: nothing(keep uLaunchELF 3.61 selected)
-Files: click "Browse for file", locate PSXLOADER.ELF, click it, and click "Add"
-IP Options: click "Yes" ONLY if you will use your PlayStation 2 over a network
-Region: NTSC for NTSC U/C consoles, PAL for PAL, and JAP for NTSC J
-Extras: keep the dummy file the way it is and assign PSX Loader to one of the buttons
-Create Exploit: select "CD/HD image (bin/cue)" and select "Live CD" in "Options for CD image"

4) Now that everything is set up, click "Create Exploit!". You will get a window saying that there are no title IDs in Title.db. Click "Yes". When the job is done, you will see this message:
A CD image has been built here: C:\IsCentral\ that can be used as a CD or HD image!

5) When the image file is made, put in your blank CD-R and start Alcohol 120%. Click "Image Burning Wizard". Locate your CD image, click it, then click "Next". You will now be at a window called: Prepare your CD/DVD recorder. Set the write speed to 4X, datatype to PlayStation 2, check "Rectify Sub-Channel Data", then click "Start".

6) You now have the Exploit CD ready. You now need a way to boot it. We'll use CD Loader. Install MAX Media Creator and start it up. Click "Add file", and locate CDLOADER.elf. Click "USB Drives" in "Output Media", select the location of your USB memory stick, and click "Create".

7) You now have CD Loader and your Exploit disc. Put Action Replay MAX in your PlayStation 2 and power it on. When it's loaded, look for MAX Media Player(called MAX Media or Media Player), select it and press X.

8) Once it's loaded, plug in your USB Memory Stick. CDLOADER.elf should be displayed on the top right of the screen. Highlight "Play" and press X.

9) When CD Loader is loaded, swap it for your Exploit boot disc and press X. If you get a screen that becomes red with a pink border turning to yellow and disappearing, the boot is a sucess, but if the border stays pink, you did something wrong.

10) You should now see LaunchELF's main menu. If you get an error message while trying to boot PSX Loader, press "Select", locate the button you assigned PSX Loader to, press O, press O on Cdfs, press O again on "BxDATA", find PSXLOADER.ELF, and select it with O. Return to the main menu, and press the button assigned to PSX Loader.

11) Follow the on-screen instruction from here-on in.

There you have it, a way to boot PlayStation backups on your PlayStation 2. REMINDER: THIS WILL ONLY WORK ON CONSOLES VERSION 9-15. REMINDER 2: You need a flip-top lid or slide card for Versions 9-11 and a flip-top lid or lid sensor MOD for Versions 12-15

it works to a point for me. i get to the big secondary Playstation logo, the black one. and under the logo it says "licensed by SCEA" blah blah. that one.

it just stops there after that old familiar noise. anyone with the same thing?

I have the same thing, but my PS2 is v4-v6 I forget which. Is there a similar trick for these older consoles?

No idea, but it looks like it doesn't work on consoles Version 1 to 8. Try it on your console and post if it does or doesn't work.

It happened with mine too, but it was a game that I was using for a memory card exploit when I was making sure my friend's Version 7 was still working properly after it was taken apart. Removing my PlayStation 2 memory card fixed this(the game was the original Grand Theft Auto). It also did that with Gran Turismo. Some games don't work well as the TOC disc.

How did you fix the problem? Because I really want to play my old final fantasy VII.

EDIT: Could it be that I'm using a different version of launchelf than everybody else? I used the 3.61 version.

I use uLaunchELF 3.61 to boot Need For Speed V-Rally and it works on my Version 14 with Grand Theft Auto as the TOC disc. Try with all your PlayStation originals and see which one will make your game boot(the original's TOC must be bigger than the backup's TOC, it's the same like soft-booting a DVD-ROM PlayStation 2 backup).
I fixed the problem by just using all my PlayStation originals, and Grand Theft Auto was the game that worked for me(out of Gran Turismo, Gran Turismo 2, V-Rally 2, and this one, Grand Theft Auto).

I found the swap trick. Tell me if this works for you as it worked for me. This has been taken from the exploitstation forums.

[my method with one very easy barely risky swap:

turn the pstwo on with an original psx game with it thinking the sensors are down.

swap the cd with any copied psx one after the ps2 browser is completely faded and before the psx screen. After that, it's smooth gaming from there.

tips: I swap the cd when the screen is black betwen the two screens. Usally you get a 5 second time between the two screens.

and if your really scared about ruining your copied game, burn a psx copy of gameshark and swap that first, then swap cds once the gameshark cd is ready to be taken out. Then load your cd through the menu.

Come to think of it, wouldn't an original gameshark for psx work?

Ive tested castlevania:sotn (beaten it, gameshark caused richter to not be able to jump into the sky) and castlevania: chronicles (didnt work on arrange mode because the cd was scratched and silver was missing on the top of the cd)

I don't suggest you do that, you might ruin the motor/laser. I havn't gotten any problems from using this method yet, but your pstwo may be different, so be warned.]

If this works for you, give the credit to th guy who wrote this.

I know what i am asking is a bit dumb but what does the "Detected Swap" mean?

And also if there was a couple of pics where you can see that last bit where you swap, could you post them?
Thanks for all your help

Dont you just love it when someone ripps off your tutorial!

Anyways if the PS2 is v9 to v17 this will work.

For best results use ulaunchelf 4.06 and edit the launchelf.cfg file so that you have a button for browser and a disc control on. then u dont need memory card.

damn direct copy and paste and you left out the screen shots. LAME>

Dude, I said I came across that tutorial and quoted everything it said, it's not mine. I just did that so that you wouldn't need to go through signing up and downloading this. Oh, and I tried to copy the pictures over to the page, no luck.

I created an app when i was bored one day. It can load PSX backups. BUT ONLY ON COLSOLES THAT ARE V9 OR UP. Just launch this app from a loader like launch.elf and follow the easy steps that it states. Use the bottom link to get the app:

Hmmm, I'd like to see what this thing does, although my PlayStation 2 has a chip, so I'll need to double-mod my console(chip/lid MOD) to test this out. I'll report back when I test this.

You just created an app? In your age....? (-93) I don't believe this.
Does this thing really work? I have a silver PlayStation Two, no mod-chips but Swap Magic.

EDIT:
Oh my God!! This really works. But the success rate playing psx backups may be 40%. I have tested 3 backups.

-Ehrgeiz works fine but the loading freezes when trying Quest Mode. -FF4 works perfectly

LATER NOTICED: Only PAL-versions of the PSX backups work with this PSX Launcher. Maybe it depends on which version of PS2 you use (US with NTSC standard or EUR with PAL standard)

excellent guide Ace_2.
The alternative to the above is hunt yourself down a breaker pro. I originally bought one after visiting that site, but it really didn't tell me much about using it. Works like a charm though.

Thats practically right. Only backed up games from that region can be played on the console of that reigon. For expamle: PAL PSX games can only be played on a PAL PS2 console.

There's a work-around for it that I figured out, it requires patching of the game, but hell, it works!

I wrote a simliar guide using the PSXLAUNCHER.ELF. But my one was more aimed at Swap Magic users. :) Good on ya Ace_2! Its a nice guide!

Hold the phone here. Are you telling me that this program will allow me to play ps1 backups without using any type of mod whatsoever?

EDIT: Nm. I re-read the first post. I do need a mod for my v12 pstwo, but i cant get that damn lid sensor mod to work correctly. :(

Great tutorial Ace. I had to do things a little different to get it too work, but it does work.
My V14 won't read my chipsbank usb flash drive, but my older v7 will read it.
So anyhow I finally got it too work by either of 2 ways by using the cdloader off my usb hd, via Swap Magic, then Ulaunch, selecting filebrowser/mass/cdloader.elf or second method, load swap magic cd, then swap for my cdloader on a burned disk.
Then I ran the exploit cd, then loaded ps1 original disk, then the backup.
Now at first I did not know if you have to press a button before loading ps1 disk or after, but soon realized once the exploit started, to quickly put in original disk, it did a spin by itself, stopped, I then swapped it for the backup, pressed x and voila it worked.

With V9 you can just do the following:

launchUle
set "disc control ON" in the settings
let uLaunchElf STOP the your triggerdisc in the drive
use a slide tool for swapping your triggerdisc for the backup
go to "filebrowser=>MISC=>PS2Browser"
You'll be redirected to the standard PS2 browser in which you'll see the "PSx cd" icon.
Select it, play your backup!

I am just saying that someone said it worked on their V7 and V10.

Otherwise if you have a PS1 Gameshark 4.1(was tested) you can also play backups on the other FAT versions of PS2.
1. Boot up your ps1 gameshark and choose your codes if you feel like cheating.
2. on the swap disc screen (the one where it says press X to continue), don't press eject, you want to use your slide card (or flip top if you have one) to remove the disc.
3. Put your backup on the disc tray and manually shut the drive (or close your flip top)
4. Press X and enjoy the game.
