Need help with 8.5 dvd-R DL burning

Well i have some movies on my hd that are to big for 4.7 gb dvd's, so i got some of those 8.5 dvd's.

I was starting up TMPGEnc 2.0 trial version, and i had everything good and set. Well i proceded to start the dvd structure biulding(.VOB, .IFO) well i went to insert the 8.5 dvd into my dvd burner. I put it in and waited for it to register.

The light under the dvd burner that shows it is reading; it was on for atleast 1 minute to 1 1/2 minutes. Well on screen it said it was "launching media..." and it said please insert media????

I don't know ahy it isnt reading it, and would like to know if anyone knows what the problem is. Thanks in advanced.

What brand of media are you using ?

I just backed up my first movie onto a DL disc ( Munich ).

No problem, w/ great result.

Don't know if I could help, but I'll try.

Hopefully some senior or addict AD members sees this post.......

what drive you you have? Maybe it doesn't support dual layer and cannot recognize the disk.

Hello everyone,

I have a problem that I'm hoping someone can help me with , I'm not having any trouble recognizing the 8.5 media and I can record on it, the problem that I'm having is with the layer break I'm losing information or to be more precise data. at the layer break i lose about five minutes of the movie, can anyone help me with this or provide me with a link that discusses this in more detail, I have a plextor 740 a.
any help would be appreciated ,

I'm sorry i haven't been able to get on and reply. Iam using the Emprex DVD Dual 16x Double Layer internal dvd+-R/RW drive(long....). Well on the back it says it can do DL 8.5GB discs.... I just dont know why it wont atleast recognize it...

Wow would this affect it... the 8.5 DVD i want to burn stuff on is DVD-R DL, and my dvd burner doesnt have DVD-R DL on it, but it does have just DVD-R(no DL) would that affect it? If it does can i just return the dvds and get the DVD+R DL ones and burn videos on them?

The firmware update for -R DL capabilities for this burner is not yet released. Return the DL -R and buy the DL +R discs. Verbatim +R DL discs give the best results for your burner.
