If your drive is having a hard time reading the disc, there's a pretty good chance that it's a bad press. Try exchanging it for another original.

Thanks guys! Actually, Munich played fine on my Toshiba laptop and I was able to back it up. However, why is it not playing on my pc? My friend tols me it might be because laptop are used to watch DVDs (like when u travel) and PCs are not configured for that purpose...

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

L.

lukepw,

I doubt that's the case. What happens when you insert the DVD? What happens if you double click on the DVD in My Computer? Is Windows Media Player installed? Do you have any other software players installed like PowerDVD, WinDVD? Does your PC have a DVD drive or just a CD drive?

Hi,

I have windows media player center, Roxio player, etc. Usually when I pop in a DVD in my DVD player - writer, the movie starts on its own but for MUNICH, nothing.... On the DVD in Explorer, the content is empty even though in windows explorer, I set it to show all hidden files and so on...

Thanks for your help.

OK, you said the DVD played OK on the laptop and you backed it up. Does the backup copy play back on the laptop? If WinXP on the PV says the disk is blank, what does WinXP on the laptop indicate?

Hi,

I could backup Munich using CloneDVD and AnyDVD, tried it on my laptop, worked well, BUT, it didn't play on my JVC DVD player :-( It seems like the DVD player starts and restarts in a loop. Any ideas?

Thanks.

@those that needed helps or interested in some FREE tools

All you need is DVDFAB Decrypter + VobBlanker and it is "guarantee" to have a successful backup in no time. Here http://www.k-probe.com/backup-newly-release-movie-DVD-DVDFAB-Decr... is my new revised "DVDFAB Decrypter + VobBlanker" guide, if ya'll don't have Nero Recode, you can always substitute Recode with DVD Shrink. The choice is yours, either you use "AnyDVD" or "DVDFAB Decrypter" and post process the VIDEO_TS.IFO file through VobBlanker.

Good luck to all and happy burning.

while alkohol work noted in the post above is highly valuable, and I think hime on the region one (u.s. dvd release) of "munich" as per the title of this thread NBO special tools are need. this dvd, as with 95% f dvds will rip fine with good old DVD Decrypter, and indeed DVD Shrink will make a perfect rip - and you don't need to do anything special.

most of the questions people are a having have to do with the large size of the film whcih has nothing whatsover to do with needing dvd fab decrypter (the best solution and free), the pcgedit tool or "any dvd," - which are ripping tools.

a) burn this film to dl, or b) span across two disks, or c) compress. these all can be done fine as well.

Based on what you've already stated, there are two possible reasons for this.

1) The drive in your PC is unable to correctly recognize the disk because of the format/disk type (+R, -R).

Check and make sure the drive is a multiformat drive, if not, them find out it it will only recognize and play +Rs or -Rs and stick to using only that type.

2) The drive in your PC is unable to correctly recognize the disk because of outdated firmware. You can use the utility provided from the link to check what version you currecntly have installed, jsut download and run it.

http://flashman.rpc1.org/Firmware/DVD-CD_firmware_detect.exe

Once you know what's installed, click on the link below to find out if an updated version is available, if so download and install it, retry playing the DVD.

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_search.php

just enter the model# in the search field, click search and check for an update, click on it to download it.

Use Anydvd and believe

I've had the same problems as discussed in this thread with the addition of this one. There's a womans voice describing what's going on in the movie.Does anyone know what to eliminate in Shrink to shut her up?I know you can turn it off using the selections in the begining but I'm trying to just backup the movie, not all the extras.I'm using AnyDVD,Shrink and burning it with Decrypter.

Don't select the 2channel audio, just keep the 5.1 or 6channel when using Shrink, even if you do not have Surround/Home Theater your player will Demux down. Directors Comments are always 2channel and a player will default to this, if you have an audio button on your remote then try selecting the 5.1 and see if it plays.

Arniebear, right on,thanks for the how to,it worked perfectly. Now a short story to all those who get a "error" of one kind or another when trying to back up your movies.I've been trying to redo a back up for hours(embarressingly it was closer to a couple days). When I first did it I used the wrong audio.Everytime I tried it was error after error.I was about to give up when from deep within the empty voids of my craneum came a thought,"I wonder if the disc is dirty"?
After hitting the disc with a Brillo pad and a steam gun,the sandwhich pieces from the night before came off and to my amazement everything worked the way it's supposed to.Take it from me,when your working with discs, take a peak at them and make sure they're clean.

Glad you got rid of it, the DC's are annoying, does anyone really listen to them. I know I don't :)
