I have a few movies I've been trying to backup. One of them is Final Fantasy Advent Children which I thought was the reason I was getting this error. However I've tried 3 movies (Aeon Flux, and Wolf Creek) and have no problem ripping, encoding, or shrinking. I am getting problems once I get to the burning. I have a Sony DVD burned. I used DVD Shrink (3.2.0.15), DVD Decrypter, and VOBblanker. I have NERO 6 (6.6.0.6) after three attempts at different movies. I suspect its something wrong with my burner or nero. someone help

All of those titles got fake structural, especially "FINAL FANTASY VII: Advent Children", so you'll need either DVDFAB Decrypter (FREE) to rip the movie first, then post process the "VIDEO_TS.IFO" file through VobBlanker (FREE). Or you can try out AnyDVD (a retail cracking engine from SlySoft). I ripped and backed up all those movies using my usual method "DVDFAB Decrypter + VobBlanker" and they all worked flawlessly. The choice is yours.

Just in case if you want to go with the FREE route and you're interested on how to use "DVDFAB Decrypter + VobBlanker", then here http://www.k-probe.com/backup-newly-release-movie-DVD-DVDFAB-Decr... is my "newly revised" guide. It is NOT that hard, all you need to do is spend some times and read and follow the steps closely and you'll be able to "rip and backup" any dvds/movies in no time.

**NOTE: DVDFAB Decrypter to rip is only "12 minutes" and VobBlanker to process the VIDEO_TS.IFO is only "5 minutes". The rest you can substitute Nero Recode 2 with DVD Shrink if you like.

Best of luck and happy burning.

I am having the same exact problem as the OP. Our error logs are almost identical. Our burners are the same.

I haven't been able to back up any DVD. Old or new. Very frustrating. Ripping, encoding and shrinking work fine. Fab to VOB to Shrink. I did everything he did. Updated Nero. I updated my burner's firmware. Nothing is working.

I tried burning as an ISO with imgbrn and get an I/O error. And even before I found this thread I did the exact same thing Alkohol suggested. Still not working.

Is this burner toast? Then again I can still burn CDs with it. I don't know. Very angry now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ok, thanks for all the help but I figured it out. It wasn't my dvd files at all. All this time I thought I wasn't cracking the copyright protection. I got it cracked the first try. I recently rearranged this room and moved my computer desk. I haven't burnt any movies or cds or anything since the move. found out the power source I changed to (a built in surge protector) might not allow my pc enough amps for my psu. I changed the outlet the computer was plugged into and then changed my burn speed to 6X rather than 2.5X (which I had it set so slow so it wouldn't have any errors) Since changing the settings around my backup of Final Fantasy worked first try, and then my backup of Aeon Flux worked like a charm aswell.

Goat, this dvd rom has been awesome. I stand behind Sony products 100%. If you got similar error codes as I did and your backups go through everything fine up until its time to burn it to a disc. Then try changing the outlet your pc is plugged into. and try burning at a higher speed I've had sucessful burns at 6X and 4X since the problem. Let me know how it works out for you as I am curious to know if this is a permanent solution.

thanks for the suggestions alkohol. I was being dumb and couldn't figure out the problem. wasn't a software issue at all. Hardware all the way it seems.

I've never had an issue until about a month ago. I hadn't changed a power source or moved my computer. It was like one day my computer just decided to start doing this. Good for you for solving the mystery. I'm even more disheartned now because I have even less of a clue.

Here's my log in case someone can lend a hand.

Ok. So I went and changed outlets to see if that was the solution like the OPs but still nothing is working. I tried to burn an ISO with imgburn and still nothing worked. Here is the error I received.

If someone can help me solve this you can have my first born. Please.

@goat_head

First of all, get rid of that CMC media and get some Taiyo Yuden, Sony or Verbatim (made in japan). Secondly, you are running low on system resources (63% used), close any unneeded programs and don't multitask,

Thanks Wayne.

I hear everyone talking about the media being used that works good but what if I never had a problem with the blank media I was using in the first place, ever? Until now I suppose. It doesn't make sense. And I don't multitask when I burn and everything is closed except maybe my outlook express. But again, never had a problem before until a month ago. Thanks again.

And now my burner will only read the crappy Memorexes I've been using. Everything else just spins and makes a clicking sound like the disc is being ground into something. I hate my computer.

You're welcome!

My personal experience is that CMC media is junk, I had a better than 50% Coaster rate when I was using them, and of course people here are reporting similar results. When I switched to Taiyo Yuden media and set a custom output size in shrink to 4350MB, so far, I'm at 100% success after over 100 burns.

Hope that helps you.

Here are somethings I noticed about your Nero log that need corrected.

First edit out your serial number! It starts with 1A22- It's at the top of your log.

Here the log is telling you the writer doesn't like the discs. Suggest you change brands.

You said you've used them before, perhaps you just got lucky with them in the past? They will not stand the test of time (they will not last very long).

Fix the problems then post back with another log.

Now we're getting some where. I found another thread and discovered it was my Nvidia IDE driver blocking the IDE from going DMA On. So I fixed that and everything seems swell on that front in the device manager. (Again, though, never had an issue with the Nvidia IDE driver before).

I also found a neat faq about system tray with a nifty list of all possible processes. I killed about 1/2 of my normally running background processes that I didn't need.

So I tried burning again for laughs even though I still have the crappy blanks. I tried my blank Fuji discs but they aren't recognized in my drive (why is that, btw?). Still no luck.

So aside from the crap media I am using at the moment, what is going wrong? I don't have the means to upgrade my memory at the moment and I've already killed 1/2 my background processes. What else can I try?

It's not reading the media properly. See that area with the 0@P? It doesn't know the disc and how to write to it. Your going to have to try better media.

Other than those 2 things, everything else is looking good.

In both logs that you posted, the only discs shown are CMC Mags. The WORST discs to use.

Disc Manufacturer: CMC MA - G. AM3

Post a log with a different disc.

Also, did you address the memory usage problem?

I can't even get the drive to read another type of disc so I can't get a log for you to see. And I cleaned up some of my running processes in the background but I'm still running kinda high. But not that it matters right now because the drive won't even read the media. I bought some verbatims and like I said, they just spin and grind and spin and grind in the drive. Nero Info tool won't read any of them except the crap I've been using. I guess I'm kind of stuck.

Check you drive cables. Are you using a 40 or 80 pin cable? Perhaps a upgrade to 80 might help.

Its really weird that both of us goat and myself would have problems with our burners, same errors pretty much but still no resolve.

I still have problems if I burn at 2x or slower. Sometimes when I use DVD Shrink to burn it only gives me 2.5x or MAXIMUM (which could be 16x) with some movies and other times it gives me the choices 2x, 4x, 6x,8x etc. So the times it only gives me the other choices I pick 2x and thats when I get them errors. I've done movies a million times at that speed and never had any problems. I've always used pretty much the same types of media. Sony, Fuji Film (japan) but now the fuji disc are made in taiwan. So I doubt its the media. I burn at lower speeds I get erros I burn 4x and up and it works perfect.

as a friend of mine said, sounds like the burner is getting ready to die. but if its on the verge of going out then why don't I have any problems reading or playing disc? no clicking no trouble, just won't burn at lower speeds with Shrink-Nero.

might be time for us to upgrade to the Sony DRU820 goat??

I was looking at the DRX820 today but it's a bit outside my price range. I think people in another forum are turning me onto the BenQ 1650. But it'd be a shame to mailorder one when I work in an electronics retail store.

but yeah I think the drive is about to croak. But I've never heard anyone have such random and strange problems with a device as I have with this thing.

I can recommend the BenQ DW 1650. It's the best burner for the money on the market.

Check NewEgg. They have both the black and biege models to match your case.
