I installed the Duo 2 GT mod chip and I'm absolutely positive I installed everything correctly. My PS2 boots up and everything but now none of my games will load up. Even the originals. What could be the problem?

try cleaning the laser. if that doesn't work disable the chip & see if the originals will work then.

I disabled the chip (and the LED went off), and it still won't boot my originals.

if you disabled the chip and originals still not working then it is not the chip. check all the soldered connections & make sure that none of the pins are bridged, also check all the ribbon wires & make sure they are all fully connected. did you clean the laser?

Yeah I cleaned the laser. I checked over it to see if any are bridged and it looks like none are. I'll check it with a meter tomorow.

Ok. I wanted to make sure my PS2 was still working, so I unsoldered everything from the modchip and taped off the ends. I also rechecked everything and absolutely nothing is bridged. I checked with a really good magnifying eye piece as well as a meter and nothing is shorted. I turned on my PS2, and the discs still won't read..

The LED is off too when I just start it up like normal so it's defenitely removed.

What could possibly be the problem??

How exactly do I check them?

(I've never done that before)

to check the fuses get a meter & set it to ohms, touch both wires (of meter) together & make sure the meter gets a reading.
then place each of the meter wires on each end of the fuse (one fuse at a time) to make sure that there is a current running through the fuse.
no current = bad fuse

let me know if you need any more help

Ok, haha yeah I probably coulda guessed that.

Could this be the problem though? I didn't think a fuse would have anything to do with discs being read.

a lot of the time it is one of the ribbon cables (usually the one to the laser unit), if they are all ok it could be a fuse on the circuit board & it could stop a disc being read. can you hear the disc spinning?

Yeah all the ribbon cables are connected. I can hear the disc spin up but it does sound a little unusual it kinda spins up then stops, spins up stops..

it could be the laser, or the motherboard. i think if you take the top of the disc housing & start up the ps2 you should see the laser light up red (dont look directly into it!!). see if the laser is working if it is it could be the motherboard. :-(

When I put it a game. It spins up, says reading disc, then says 'Disc Read Error'.

Yeah I see the red light. Guess I'm getting a new motherboard.

No, I already tested that. I ordered a new motherboard today, so I'll post back when I test it out.

Ok I got the new motherboard. I put it in and it worked. The discs would read. Then I put in the chip. It didn't work at first (wouldn't boot up) but I checked over a few things and one of the points (which wasn't be read as a bridge on the meter) looked like it was bridged so I fixed that and the PS2 now boots up and the mod chip LED comes on. But, something is weird about the DVD drive.

Whenever I first turn on my PS2 it now makes a weird buzzing sound for a second, then when I put in a disc it begins to read and then makes another weird buzzing noise and then makes a few weird high pitched beeps from inside the drive. What could be the problem? I checked over everything and there are no bridges.

Actually, I didn't have the DVD ribbon cable plugged in. I can now put the mod chip in disable mode and it WILL load up my originals. If I put it into modchip mode though, it can't get it to load backups.. NOW what's the problem?
