Hi, I am new to backing up ps2 games, I have had my ps2 modded by a mate and I understand the need swap magic 3.6 to run them, a few questions if I may:-
1. Can swap magic be backed up, as I have found it on the net, downloaded it but .iso burnt file wont run is ps2, if not i'll buy it.
2. Could you tell me the difference between a ps2 cd based game and a dvd based game? How do I know what to burn them onto (cd or dvd) when i back them up?
I have a few games I wanna backup for safety reasons, and have read the links on how to back up games and it seems simple enough with the relevent software, which I now have.
Nah you've gotta own an original Swap Magic, dont know why someone bothered putting it on the net. CD games normally have the little CD icon thing somewhere on the cover or the disc, but you can just put it in your PC drive and see if its under 700mb if it is then its CD if its more then its a DVD.

My mate has modified the ps2 (slimline black), using a small screwdriver and duct tape covering the sensoers or something he said, anyway it works on his with swap magic. He said that he uses the tape and not the slide tools as they sometimes break. I Was hoping to burn swap magic but i'll buy it instead.

NO, you can't. there is a part of the disc that can not be coppied, like all other PS2 games. So you would need an original copy to load the back up copy making it pointless.

The difference is clear. If it is a DVD based game it goes on a DVD, a CD based game goes on a CD. And the disc should tell you what it is (CD Rom or DVD-Rom) on the disc or disc case. 95% of PS2 games are DVD based.

DVD Decrypter is the easiest to use, and also use GOOD QUALITY 8X DVD-R discs to start. If they do not work you may want to try +R disc. If your burner can Booktype to DVD-Rom then +R may be your best bet.
