are these original store bought games?
Did you set up the connection right on your Ps2?
Is it going through a router or just to the modem or PC?
did you set up a seperate LAN (Local Area Network) connection on the PC to use with the PS2 and did you set that up for connection sharing?
I have only ever set up an Xbox but setting up a LAN connection should be the same for both. I also have a cable connection.
List what your PC seetings are, and then what you entered into the PS2 network settings.

trying to help, but first you have to narrow it down out of the hundred things it could be.
Which is why i asked you all those questions, which still need answers.
here is how it should be set up.
http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/Troubleshooting see online gaming at the bottom of that page and look at all the information. there are plenty of pages on how to set it up. Having the network disc would help.
http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/Troubleshooting also see there for set up diagrams and more information.
and you may still have to create the LAN connection on the PC and set it up for network sharing like i mentioned above.

yes, it goes strait from the PS2 the modem.
or you can buy a router so you have more ports and are able to use both the PC and PS2 online at the same time without having to unplug anything.
but setting this part up is the easy part. it is getting all the IP settings in the PS2 that seem to foul most people up.

ok i look through all of those sites and i found one that was useful BUT i need the "PS2 Manual IP Calculator" and when i click on the link to go get it, it says "he requested URL /temp/ps2assign.php was not found on this server." ... so it looks like im shit out of luck unless someone knows where it is or has it and can send it to me ...
here is the site that was useful
http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=65171
the rest of them told me i needed the startup disc which i cannot find from anyone ... is there anywhere you can d/l it and load it with swap magic (sorry, if thats piracy)
Thanks.

oooooook never mind ... i got it to work ... what you need to do when plugging the modem right into the ps2 is unplug the modem for 5 minutes and make sure the ps2 is off then plug the ethernet cable from the modem into the ps2 and it should work ... it was using the pc settings thats why it was timing out ... thanks for your help though

you may want to try this
http://www.teammodders.com/viewtopic.php?t=714 I do very little online stuff. But i know it is possible. But if your PS2 and computer is online at the same time you will most likely experience a log of lag in the connection so it may not be worth it.
A router would be a good investment as well.
My cable modem was USB as well, but it also had a way to hook it up via eithernet cable so i switched it. Then bought a routher and hooked everything up through that.
