As evidenced by the multitude of threads in this forum, stick with Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim. Reputable online sellers include rima.com, supermediastore.com, and newegg.com. Throw those Imations into the sea!

@libg
I agree with mrchub on the TY's and Verbs - best ones out there!
In the mean time till you pick up some quality media - cut your burn speed down to 4x and make sure your burner's firmware is up to date.

Imation DVDs often turn out to be made in India and have a lot of problems. I would do as suggested and try 4X. Verbatim MCC 004 +R 16X are a good choice and usually available at Office Max for $15 on sale.

NEC 3500, 2.18
Liteon 812S, US0Q (scans only)
LG 4163B, A103
AOpen 1648 AAP, 1.07

Still a few bugs in the system...

Please no imations in the sea, I can just picture all the sharks with dvds stickin in their fins lol. Here's my experience with Imations. Before I knew beans about dvd-brands, I bought a spindle of the garbage dvds called Imation, 100 of them. Out of the first 10, I think 2 actually recorded. After that, For every 1 that the machine didnt reject as unrecordable, I threw away at least 7. The last half of the spindle made a good smelly fire. If you spend the time to record something>put it on a good dvd like Verbatims (officemax sales all the time) or some Ty=brand (check the labels on the Sony's at wallyworld, you will see the ty's sometimes =will say Made In Japan, not Taiwan) Good luck!
