Okay so the other day i went to staples and got me some staples brand disk cuz they were cheap.............lol before you give me the 3rd degree on media to use lemme explain, Ive actually had really good luck in the past buying off brand dvd-rs and figured if i could get these to work then 5 dollars for 50 of them even if i wasted 25 was still a good buy.

Well anyways to the dilemma, So im burning Nanny Mcphee, stick in one of my normal brand Sony dvd and it burns fine...well then i go try a staples brand one, and get pauses and horrible pixelation....so i look on here to see if ic an improve the quality any and defrag my hard drive, and such...anyways upgraded last night to anydvd 5.9.6.1 and i get this error message

Windows XP 5.1

so my question is to you, WTF did anydvd do to nero or dvdshrink cuz it was burning fine till i upgraded to the newest one, and yes im going out and buying new some more Sony dvds tomorrow, but it gets to the beginning on the burn process and gives me this error regardless of what type of dvd i got in there

@Dweller79

What I've been able to find indicates that the error is a "Power Calibration Error" and means that the drive does not like the media you fed it.

I'm sure someone far more knowledgable than me will give you more info.

What speed rate and format were those staple's blanks?

Nanny McPhee had nothing special on it. I left AnyDVD disabled.

I always leave AnyDVD disabled, until I encounter the new releases that DVD Shrink can't handle.

Right click the fox icon in your utility tray/disable/and give it a go.

I don't see your firmware version in that log.
Can you using Nero infotool to give us the current firmware version for that Sony Dru-710A,also those media codes of the sony and staple's media?

It just may need a firmware update if you got the 16x speed of staples media.

Saugmon has one solution: try shrink without AnyDVD running! At least that way you would know if AnyDVD was causing the problem to start with if you keep getting the burn error without AnyDVD.

I upgraded all the firmware very recently like less than 2 weeks ago and it had been burning fine, as for the staples media itself is up to 16x compatible, although i only ever burn at minimum speed. but as for the nanny mcphee like i said using the sony media originally it worked fine, used the staples it burned but ended up pausing, pixelizing etc... so i upgraded AnyDVD and thats the error message i got, didnt even start the burn so atm i turned off AnyDVD and gonna try to burn again and see if that is the cause if it is /shrug will post the results in a few minutes

Okay so anyways to update:

Defraged the hard drive
Virus Scanned the Entire computer
updated to AnyDVD 5.9.6.1
Using Nero Version 7.0.8.2
Using Shrink 3.2
the firmware on the Sony drive is updated to VBYX5 current

Okay so i think this is a duplicate of the original error message but got it again when i turned off any dvd and went to burn with shrink/nero

Okay just to update ya all on all of it, ive figured out the solution to my question.

I was tinkering around today on the computer getting even more annoyed, when i decided to check the burn speeds in Nero, well come to find out i had forgotten to enter my serial number and demo expired. lol nice eh....anyways after kicking myself in the ass ran a dvd burned like normal, but the staples brand DVD-R would be more useful as a beer Coaster im thinking, i burned a dvd i put on the hard drive a few days ago onto a disk at the slowest possible burn and the dvd pixelizes, skips pauses etc.... put a sony DVD-R in the drive, and it works perfect...anything i can do to somehow improve the quality on the staples, i mean sure they work as frisbies and coasters lol but would like to have some use for them other than that.

Nero caused the power calibration error cuz the demo was expired. Never would of guessed that /shrug oh well, thanks for the suggestions and such, why not the cause of this problem always good to know someones out there to help me when i get in a jam

Burn those staple's discs nice and slow. Keep the backup target set at 4300 mbs-nice and away from that outer edge.

Don't put anything important on them.

The stand alone player doesn't like that staples brand media.I've seen it many times. Stand alone players magnify the problems with the crap media. It gives them a harder time.

View one of those staple's brand discs using your pc's DVD-RW drive. See if the issues occur there as well.

If you get a good playback using the pc,then you want to run a lens cleaning disc through that stand alone player. That cleaning disc is a last resort, before drive replacement. It may help, may do nothing,or can even ruin a drive.

I got a 50 pk of those staple's +8x cmags. I gotta watch where I send them to. I have no issues burning them,or playing them on any of my personal drives-but picky players will have issues with them.

I have a Lite-ON LTR-48327S and I'm telling you right now it's the drive. These drives suck. From day 1. However, all hope is not lost. I found a feature in Nero and Alcohol that's never failed to make the drive burn properly, even at 48x. It's called simulation. It will make it burn slower but with the assurance of a good burn. It seems to be file dependant as well as media with these drives. Alcohol had been great for images until I came across one that would not burn without being completely corrupt on any type of media, then magically simulation fixed everything. On Nero it's done the same for data CDs which are hopeless if I'm burning mp3s or rar most of the time at any speed. I burned out a few just a few minutes ago at 48x and they are perfect. Some people say that simulation helps massively with buffer underruns and that could be what happens on these drives, I'm not sure. I just know I'm burning perfect cds on all media and don't have to buy another drive.
PS-Sony was the best media for my drive too but didn't always 100% work. I can burn the cheapies now too.
