could someone tell me why my audio compilations playback fine in media player but not on my music centre I get a build up of what sounds like static about halfway into the disc

Poor quality media is the most likly cause of problem

Taiyo Yuden (the best, available online. Rima has them for about .38 ea. in spindles of 100), Sony, Fuji, Verbatim (check that the label says "Made in Japan").

A piece of advice; In Shrink, under preferences, set the "Target DVD Size" to custom and use about 4350MB to avoid writing all the way to the outside edge of the disk. Even with TY media, I've had problems there.
