I'm a social worker in Philadelphia. Do I enjoy it?...well, that's a 50/50 deal. I arrange for people with obsolete skills or people whose jobs have left the area to go to school so in that sense, its very rewarding. On the other hand, I often deal with the most disfunctional elements of our society ...murderers, child molesters, rapists, thieves of every imaginable flavor, loads of the mentally ill, transexuals taking illegal hormones .... everything. In that sense, it can be pretty rough at times ...there are people in our society whose lives are such a mess that you can't do anything for them...one tries but the greatest of skills combined with a very bright mind amount to nothing if the person is such a mess that he/she cannot hold down a job. I learnt long ago not to let that part of the job get the best of me though; I count my victories and ignore those loses I was powerless to help.

I'm a maintenence technician (electrician,mechanic,pipe fitter,machinest,welder etc...) at a corrugated box company.
The job is rewarding when...
-you fix a problem no one else could figure out(then the owner comes and thanks you personnally)
-you get a new machine in and install it in record time
-you make the operator mad because you fixed it right away and he does'nt get to read the news paper.
-they buy a used machine from ebay that looks like it was laying in a cornfield and you bring it back to life!
The job sucks when...
-you fix a problem no one else could figure out and some one else else takes the credit!
-you get a new machine in,it breaks down and all the trouble shooting literature is in German!
-you made the operator mad because the machine was fixed right away so he breaks it again but this time worse than the last!(so he can finish reading the paper)
-they buy a used machine from ebay that looks like it was laying in a cornfield and you can't bring it back to life!
-Ah........Christmas bonus check-Priceless!

Metrologist. Not the weatherman, metrology is the science of meaurement. I make precision gages to measure anything (non-electrical). I work for Honeywell Int. making (measuring, rating)spark plugs for all sorts of engines. Must be precise and repeatable to .0001" and .oo5mm for customers like Ford (Motorcraft), GM (A/C Delco), Harley-Davidson (Screaming-Eagle), Autolite, and many others.
Thats just my day job.
http://www.myspace.com/livingdeadband I play drums and we have opened for a few national acts, and have been asked to sign a contract with unnamed music label, but turned it down due to restrictions and financials.
First time dad of a 9 month old daughter. That is where I work. Someone take a nap for me please.

I temper automotive glass. Backlites/door glass/sun roofs/T-Tops/even Glass roofs-top of these cars is all glass.
Very hot and noisy- We heat the glass up to about 650-700 degrees centigrade and quench it will cool air. When you break a car window and it shatters into a gazillion pcs,my job was done.
Tempering glass makes it 100's of times stronger than raw glass. We make glass for: Honda/Toyota/Mitsubishi/Daimler-chrysler/Ford/GM/Nissan/Mercedes/Lexus/BMW and a slew of other manufacturers.

Besides working for Ireland :0)
Let's see I run a department that handles the software/apps used in the company. Starts with inception whether new app or enhancement thru implementation then post implementation trouble shooting. A lot of testing and troubleshooting.
Do I like it well day's like today when I run a new buildfor an app that has some fixes and changes that supposedly was fully uat'd - regression included -by the software vendor and get 50 failures right off the bat it can suck. But's it Friday so TGIF.

Sorry Ireland, but I don't pay into social security. The railroad has it's own federal retirement plan that only railroaders pay into and take out of. My wife gives you a little though...LOL (no dirty comments now).
@jazo
