I am fed up of swapping discs (Swap Magic 3.6) and considering getting a ps2 hard drive, i have a version 13 ps2 (70003).
I am wondering of the best options are
* USBeExtreme or HDAdvance?
* Are these both compatible with Action Replay Max Evo?
* Is the software expensive or easily avaliable?
* Can i use any Hard Drive as i have a external hard drive i already use for my laptop?
* What are the cables and connections?
* Do i need discs or network adapters?
* I have an old bulky ps2 also will it be compatable with that also?
* Do they work with ps1 games aswell?

Also i can't find any tutorials for installing formatting etc all links would be appreciated. Thanks for any help

Your best bet would be usb extreme. Cut scenes in some games will skip a little though.

2.)Yep, it's compatible

3.)No it's not expensive, and can more than likely be found on ebay.

4.)Yes, as long as it fits in the case.

5.)The only connection you will need is a usb cable to connect your hard drive to the ps2.

6.)No, the only disk you will need is the usb extreme disk.

7.) Since you have a fat ps2, you will be better off putting a hard drive in that ps2 than the slim ps2. Putting a hard drive in the fat ps2 will have more compatiblity with games, won't skip on cut scenes, and loading time will be very fast compared to using a hard drive on a slim ps2. The only thing you will need is a network adapter to power up the hard drive and hd advance. Actually, you don't even have to buy an hd advance disk because you can just burn it and load it using swap magic. If you wanna put hd advance on your memory card you can buy using the memory card exploit and never again will you have to use swap magic. You can look at the links in my sig for information on how to make an eploit cd and also an .elf for hd advance that you can just burn to a cd. So in my opion I would just put a hard drive in the fat ps2 as it will save you a lot of trouble later down the road.

8.) No it cannot play ps1 games

ps3 with 20gb hard drive

xbox 360 premium edtion with vga/hd hook up to my dell 20.1 inch widescreen lcd.

White and black 1.5 psp's

I'll take this down WHEN micro$oft decides to stop being lazy and make the capcom fighting games backwards compatible with the 360 dammit!!!

Yeah you should be able to put that Hard Drive into your Fat PS2

All you need since you have Swapmagic already is
A Memory Card
PS1 Game (to use as a trigger disc)
Internal IDE Hard Drive
PS2 Network Adaptor

and the following software to make a Memory Card Exploit to load HD Loader from your Memory card to run your HD

HDLOADER - http://sksapps.com/hd/HDL_7C.rar

Independence Compiler - used to Create MC Exploit http://sksapps.com/exploit/independencecompiler3.0.rar

Winhiip - used to install games & Iso's onto hard drive
http://sksapps.com/hd/WinHIIP_V1.7.5.rar

if you need any help you can find all the info you need from this site
http://sksapps.com/index.php?page=hd.html

I have the same Hard Drive ... Bought mine from Staples for $50 after $50 rebate...

Yes.. If you can use your CD ver of Swapmagic to get the HDLOADER Exploit onto your memory card and your PS2 has no problems booting PSX games.. Then you're golden... The PS2 Uses a PSX game of your choosing as a trigger disc....

So my suggestion is this .. If your laser is going but still reads PS2 games and you have a HD and a PS2 Network Adaptor and a way of butting backups (to make the exploit) .. Go for the HDLoader route and save your $ and buy a new laser or a Used PS2 with a good laser down the road when you need too...

so my problem with the fat ps2 is probably the laser? So all i really need is to get the network adapter and HDD, and a new laser? will the network adapter connect my ps2 with my computer? do i transfer games with winhiip? is this method as hard as it sounds, i have a decent knowledge of rebuilding etc.

You CAN transfer games from PC to PS2 through the network adaptor but I've had a hard time figuring that one out so I use Winhiip when need be or I just transfer using the PS2 drive itself (which in your case since the laser is gone or going ya can't) So for you if you have Alot of games to put on your HD I'd use Winhiip... Install the drive in your PC and then use Winhiip to transfer to the hard drive.. It's really quite easy to do ...

I wouldn't buy a new laser till ya have too... As long as you can get the HD up and running and it will read the PS1 game enough to launch the exploit.. that will give ya time to save up and just buy another used PS2... $50 - $85 is about average.. and lasers are almost as much....
