Just a tip I wanted to share.

I've never had an issue with DVDshrink until recently. 50% to 75% through the encoding process it would just hang. I'd have no option but to reboot. Sound familiar? Well I've been searching everywhere and everyone who has experianced it seems perplexed by the same issue.

I uninstalled and reinstalled DVDShrink. I defragged. I ran scandisk.

It now works perfect. Still taps 100% usage off and on but no freeze ups.

Good luck

Well, my system just shuts down. I had to go back to using dvd 2 one. This sucks. Extra steps involved. Any ideas out there??? It stays at 100% usage and I know that can't be right.

Dvd shrink does max out your processor.Nero recode 2 does the same. I use a free program called sysmetrix. This program gives me dials/guages on my background screen so I can keep an eye on my processor speed/ram usage/and other stuff. When I encode or analyze, the processor runs at least 95%.It really glows on that graph,LOL.

This can build up heat. Background programs kicking on may add to glitches during the analyzing and encoding steps or kicking you out.

When your pc shuts down while backing up dvds:

1) Heat issue-add fans/blowers/pull the side off the tower and point a fan in it.

2) Weak/underpowered powersupplies.

3) Registry errors-run a registry cleaning program, you may also want to reformat.

4) Virus/malware

Remember: More compression/use of AEC enhancements of shrink-the more strain it puts on your processor.Shut off all unnecessary background programs.

I had major issues with an athlon 3000+ pc. Black screens/blue screens/blew 3 gbs of pc 2700/blew 3 powersupplies/new mobo. Adding fans and blowers helped.Keeping compression to a minimum and no AEC enhancements helped some. All issues disappeared after putting an antec true 400 wt ps and total reformat. Now it's one of the best pcs I have.

Dvd-5 to DVD-5 or DVD-9 to dvd-9: When you have a 1:1 copy,no compression needed: You can eliminate DVD Shrink and backup using DVD Decrypter using Mode ISO read and Mode ISO write. This puts a lot less strain on the processor. For me,only 5-10% processor usage when ripping with DVD Decrypter.

You know, I was thinking about putting in stronger fans. I put in two stronger ones so far, so maybe if I put in the other three, it would help. Still don't understand why the usage is at 100%. Even for a dual core. Maybe it's me, but I thought it would have less stress.
I'll also look for registry errors. I'd hate to kill my processor.
