I have a slim PS2 and was wondering what adapter I need in order for it to work on my new BenQ FP202W LCD monitor. This monitor uses DVI input but I can't seem to find something that would convert it from PS2 to DVI. This is the BenQ product homepage in case more specification is needed (http://www.benq.us/Products/LCD/index.cfm?product=593&page=specif...).
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Is this a computer monitor? To run it through a computer you need a video card with RCA or maybe S-video inputs.

There's no way I could just bypass the video card and instead just hook it directly from the PS2 to the LCD monitor using some kind of adapter? And yes, this is a computer monitor but I'd also like to use it for my PS2, hence this question. If there's no other way but to hook it up via video card, what exactly do I need for it to get it working? Thanks.

The ps2 output is intended for TV, a sort of translation is needed. I haven't heard of anything that could do it but, you might google it and see if something turns up. A TV tuner card or a video card with TV capabilities is probably you're best bet, and they're quite easy to find.

Is there any brand/model you would recommend that I get? I have an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 graphics card but I doubt it has any tv capabilities. So if there's any better card out there that is not too pricey, I would definately get it. Thanks.

You could get a vga adapter to hook your ps2 to your monitor, but those are kind of expensive...

Unfortunately, there is no adapter you could get to hook up the PS2 to the DVI input, without paying a LOT of money. The reason being, the PS2 output is analog, and the DVI input is digital. Digital/Analog adapters are *way* expensive. Same with VGA adapters. So, your best option is to get a card with video-in capabilities as already mentioned. They do make nvidia cards with VIVO (video-in video-out). I'm running one right now -- a Leadtek GeForce6600GT w/ VIVO. Just search around for cards with VIVO. :-)

I think this is what your trying to do except your is DVI not VGA.

But the stickied topic above "where to get your modded chips"...i searched around that site and found this.

http://www.easybuy2000.com/store/computer%20accessories/magic_vga...

Basically...your hook up your normal ps2 and instead of putting your A/V cables into the t.v or whatever...plug it into there...and then hook your monitior up to that little box and ta-da!

Yes, that is precisely what I am trying to do except with DVI instead of VGA. I searched around for it but couldn't find anything, so was wondering if you know any specific brand/model number that would work for my PS2 & LCD monitor?

DVI == Digital. PS2 Outputs == analog. An adapter would have to convert an analog signal to a digital signal, which is MUCH more complex than converting analog to analog or digital to digital. You could probably find one, but it's going to easily cost as much if not more than your PS2 itself. Expect a 200-400$ pricetag. Here's one I found quickly with google - http://www2.dvigear.com/vitodvisc.html

Holy crap you're right .. that's a TAD bit expensive LoL. But since my LCD monitor has both VGA and DVI signal cables included, but for input connectors it only has D-Sub and DVI-D, will I still be able to use the thing you mentioned above assuming I wanted to try that route?

Oh and btw, when I right-click properties for my monitor settings, it shows up as "BenQ FP202W (Analog) on NVIDIA GeForce FX5500." So is it Analog then by any chance or still Digital? Sorry for sounding like a idiot but bear with me here as I am a complete noob when it comes to things like this. Also thanks for your help so far everyone, it's been really helpful in determining what I can and cannot do at this point.

The adapter rudeboi linked to would convert the signal so you could connect it to the VGA (15-pin D-Sub) port on your monitor. Alternatively you could get a graphics card for your computer that could accept the s-video signal, and display it on your monitor, something like this -- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814127164 Edit: Just read that post. The DVI port is digital, the VGA port is analog. Guess I forgot to mention that. Which connection are you using to connect it to your graphics card?

Well that's the thing. I wasn't really planning to hook it up to my graphics card to begin with unless that was the only option I had, but since Rudeboi actually found an adapter that could do what I wanted to do, I wanted to try that route. Problem is, I just can't seem to find one that does it from DVI and not VGA... :/

Your monitor has digital and analog inputs right? The PS2 can't output digital video, so your options are to a.) Connect to the VGA port and let the monitor handle the digital conversion or b.) pay a bunch of money to have an external box do the same conversion. Either way you get the same quality. Though, I guess I don't understand what your issue with that box that would convert the signal to VGA is...

So I could just buy that box that Rudeboi linked and it would work perfectly with my monitor and PS2? I just didn't know if it would work or not but if it does then for sure I'm getting it! :)

Yeah, as long as your monitor has that normal VGA input. (The 15-pin connector that's on virtually every monitor)

Just to be sure this will work 100% on my monitor, here is the BenQ website link for the LCD specs - http://www.benq.us/Products/LCD/index.cfm?product=593&page=specif...
Now I am not quite sure if the normal VGA input will work fine on this monitor as the little box only supports resolutions of 640*480, 800*600 and 1024*768 although my monitor supports higher resolutions. How clear will my picture be if I were to get this?

Couldn't say man. The quality of the signal is going to be s-video, but going from your TV to your monitor could be a huge leap in clarity. I would just set that box to 1024x768@75Hz, or @60Hz if your monitor doesn't support 75. Bear in mind that the resolution being put out by your s-video cable is like, 640x480 give or a take a little.

I just found this other box on Ebay for a couple bucks more and was wondering if it might be a better choice since it has almost the exact same functions but also supports resolutions of up to 1280*1024? Wondering what you think of it.

You probably won't notice too much of a difference, as that's still not your monitor's native resolution. And, as I mentioned before, the video being output from your PS2 is at a 640x480 resolution. Plus, seeing as how that auction is in the UK, it's *probably* designed for PAL, whereas your PS2 is NTSC. I'd stick with the box rudeboi found.
