I have a PS2 with modchip and was attempting to play one of my backup games when it wouldn't boot. After getting a little frustrated with it and shutting the lid a little harder than normal the playstation now powers off as soon as a CD/DVD is put inside and the lid closed.

I can switch the playstation on without a CD/DVD in and it comes on and stays on, however as soon as the disk goes in and almost starts to sound like its spinning up, it shuts off.

Have a loosened a wire or broke a connection.

Help...

What's on the screen? What happens when it's started with a disk in the drive? Does it completely power off or just go into stand by?

Without a disk it boots up tothe normal startup screen, where you go into the memory card etc.. If I put the disk in it just goes to standby within 1 sec. It doesn't even show anything on the screen.

If i switch it on with the disk in you get a black screen and then within 1 sec it turns off..

Have i broke!! it big time....

Worst case would be to buy a new ps2 but i think that problem is fixable some how. Do all the games not work or only the back ups because then it might be the modchip as the problem.

The jolt could have caused a short, you might try testing the modchip connections to see if one is loose.
