im lookin to get some Taiyo Yuden discs for my new Lite-On external DVD Burner. Which type (8x or 16x, inkjet or silver matte, whatever that means, etc.) would be best, and where do you get them? the burner has a max burn speed of 16x. also, is the burner any gud? thx for any help,

I either get it from newegg or supermediastore.com. Some members say they received fakes from newegg, but I've ordered over 100 discs from them and they were all genuine.

There's never a dispute with supermediastore though (but shipping costs are a biatch with them, never mind the shipping time).

I always get 8x, although I'm sure 16x (where available) is fine. Ask Doc. I've yet to come across 16x TYs.

Inkjet is printable media. Silver matte--i think that refers to the regular ones; the no label glossy ones.

Both my internal DVD drives are Liteon 16x DLs. I love 'em! If I missed anything, Doc will take care of it.

hehe, i knew i heard my name mentioned in here~ :) thanks for the "shout-out" Mr._Pink~ LOL

anyways, burner413, Mr._Pink covered it pretty well, not much he missed, i would stick with supermediastore.com or rima.com or even meritline.com (gives you a fair choice as when those stores have their respective sales, they are a few dollars cheaper than their competitors, just need to do a lil bit of price comparison before you checkout) :)

Lite-on burners are pretty good, i have 3 of them myself (but the older models...SOHW-1633S, SOHW-1693S, rebadged Sony dru-710a which is the 1633S also) :) assuming you have the latest firmware for your particular model Liteon, it really doesn't matter which rated speed disc you get, they are all equal in quality~ :)

i PREFER the 8x DVD-R over that of the 16x rated DVD-R (TYG02 over TYG03), but that is JUST MY OWN preference, i've had more success with the 8x than the 16x...

in terms of the inkjet printables (assuming you have a direct cd/dvd printer, ie. Epson R series printer) you have your choice of 2 different kinds by Taiyo Yuden, the FULL HUB white printables or the NON FULL HUB silver inkjet printables, again, it's based on YOUR preference as to which you like better...i PREFER the silver non-hub printables for the "holographic" look they give when complete, but they are NON FULL HUB, which some members prefer...

since your burner has a max burn speed of 16x, you could use ANY of the aforementioned TYS, but i would slow the burn down to about 8x, as 16x burning is even a bit fast in MY BOOK~ :)

good luck w/ ur new drive/burner and your Taiyo Yudens...i'll keep an eye on this thread burner413 and let us know how it all works out, if you have any more questions, i'll be around...

docTY~

@burner413

those TYG02s in your link will do the job nicely~ :) rima.com is a GREAT place to purchase GENUINE TYs :P ur welcome

just a word of advice, often times supermediastore.com and meritline.com will go neck and neck and offer FREE SHIPPING on TYs, just gotta check out their selection, especially with memorial day coming up, i'm sure a few sites will offer special deals on media~ :)
