I actually got a burned disc from a well-known DVD rental company/site! The worst part is that it is Optodisc media (laser inscribed: R8X DD19 8021 and OL12MH0405231825E on the inner plastic) with a TYG02 media code!!!

Here is a Nero InfoTool screenshot:

Here is a quality scan from Nero CD/DVDSpeed:

LOL... Can you believe this?!? You'd think these guys at least used quality media.

What often happens with online rental discs is that some renters burn a copy, return the burn, and keep the original. The quality control by rental companies is non existant.I got a DVD sent me by one Aussie company that was almost snapped in half.

All three discs that I received were the same brand and burned, thus, not a mere coincidence...

These printables had the movie title and "Not for sale, for rental only" printed on them. They were definitely the companies product!

was it a series? sometimes rental companys have special copies made or might make them theirselves to prevent giving out two sided dics so that you have to rent more discs from them.

it wasnt blockbuster or netflix was it? i use netflix and i dont think they do a good job at checking discs because i have recieved several discs that were cracked in the inner hub or scrathed beyond play or smooth play and their customer service for resolving the problem sucks as well. blockbuster i just hate their online rental service because the closest shipping center to me is in a different state and the turn around time is too long and their customer service sucks just as much. personally the only thing netflix has over blockbuster is the turn around time

This isn't about checking discs. It's about a major online rental company making copies with a Pioneer DVR 109 and DVDCloner software on suspect silver inkjet printable Optodisc DVD-Rs. I am sure that once a company pays whatever royalties or fees that they are free to duplicate however they want. Most stamp or press their copies, but these knuckleheads are burning suspect media (IMO) with suspect software (IMO)!!!

maybe they are tired of people messing up their good discs and decided to just rent out backups people don't take good care of rental discs i had a problem with a scratched up rental and they sent me another copy of the same rental that was scratched worse than the first one so i broke it in half and sent it back to them in a way i helped prevent another user from getting a scratched disc u'd be suprised at the things they would do to prevent you from renting too many rentals on unlimited rental plan not gonna say any names of sites on the net that rents flix. what rental company is it or is that like highly classified or something.

You guys should join Hollywood video. They have an MVP club, pay $15 a month and you are entititled to all category movies for free and all New Releases that are 1 month or older are free...

Can't go wrong...

I used to have that MVP pass, it's a good deal I must say! And after a while I ended up getting the game pass from them, another good deal! I wish HollyWood Video would have an online rental service, but it wouldn't suprise me if they implemented that slowing down the shipping of movies if you rent too many like BB and NF does....
