Ive just bought a new lite-on dual layer lightscribe burner with some 8x dvd-r ty discs. Previously ive used dvd-r 4x TY discs and theyve always played fine in both my dvd players and my dad's, but with this new batch of 8x my dvd player doesnt like them. It just says "loading" for about 60sec then "no disc." Whats the deal? Before i had the 'value line" ty, now i have the "premium" line, but its not so premium so far.
Yes they are authentic, from supermediastore.com, and i upgraded my firmware on my recorder the second i installed it. Is there anything i can do with these or am i going to have to buy a different brand?
As i said before the 4x discs worked fine in 3 players. I have 2 dvd players, it will not play in the apex, (just says "loading" for a while then "no disc"). My other dvd player is a portland which is does play, but it takes it about 60-90 seconds of "loading" until it starts playing.
Could be to do with your burner and Taiyo Yuden compatability as I had that problem with an old Samsung recorder I had, so instead got a Pioneer that produces some solid burns with them.
Also what speed are you burning them at as burning them too slow or fast coupled with the firmware/burner your using could also greatly affect your PIE/PIF's.
My Mum's got a Liteon and they do mix very well with 8x TY's after you've finished do a disc quality scan with Nero CD/DVD speed, download @ http://www.cdspeed2000.com/
Ideally you want to be looking between 0 and 40000 PIE in total over 4.38GB and between 0 and 150 for PIF for a Liteon in total over 4.38GB.
However anything between 0 and 100,000 PIE, 0 and 500 PIF should read OK.
Also I usually get the best success burning 8x TY on Liteon's @ 4x.
Well i checked the media codes sticky and it looks like my so called 4x discs were actually 8x (ty02). maybe this new "premium" batch of discs are bad, or my new burner doesnt like them. im guessing its my burner. i'll try verbatims tommorrow and post back. Also, burning at 6x delievered the same results.
If you near the centre hub on the discs it should have a sequence of letters and numbers laser etched nto the disc if there authentic 8x DVD-R TY's it'll read like GG000*** (obviously where I'v put the stars there'll be numbers in place) also the Liteon my Mum's got is a SOHW-1633S it came as default in my Mum's Emachines.
