RITEKG05 vs TYG01

I have a big problem. Down here (Puerto Rico) is not easy to come across quality media. CMCMAG dominates the market. Until recently my strategy was to buy Sony's 8X MIJ (YUDEN00T02) for really important stuff and Maxell's (RitekR03) for trivial things. Well, for a couple of weeks I've been visiting several stores looking for media and now it's official folks. I live in MEDIA HELL!!!! All Sonys over here are now Made in Taiwan and the Maxells I've bought recently are starting to code CMC.

So I started to surf the net for sales (I'm kinda broke)and discovered some TYG01 DVD-R 4X) and RITEKG05 (DVD-R 8X)selling for the same price and wondered which one is better...

PS Besides Rima, SuperMediaStore and Meritline, where can you buy authentic media on the web?

Go with the TY's at supermedia. Several members here have bought those same TY's and they code out as being TYG02 (8x). Bargain!

Just my experince w/ Ritek GO5's - did not do very well for me. Too many problems for me.
Some members here love them and have no problems.
The GO5's were why I switched to TY & Verb:)

The sites you listed are the only ones I use. I primarily use supermediastore though.

The thing is those sites either don't ship to Puerto Rico or the only shipping they offer to us is Second Day Air. In the end it's not cost efective ordering from them if you have to pay $20-$30 for shipping only. So now you see why I ask for other retailers.

PS I love TY's. I'm just curious about the Dye quality. Although they are from different manufacturers, the TYG01's are kind of early generation and the Riteks are kinda latest generation.

Been using Ritek brand DVDs for years and never had a problem with them. Burnt a few coasters now and then, but thats to be expected. Actually I do not thing I have wasted a G05 series disc yet. I get mine from www.allmediaoutlet.com for 27 cents each.

I'm gonna check the site. Thanks for the input, but just so you know...So far I have only gotten one Coaster with TY media and I'm pretty sure I know the reason. I've got a laptop (1.6 Ghz) with an external burner and I was multitasking while burning. It was bound to happen.

Yeah the shipping is probably more for Puerto Rico. Not a lot of other sites that I've seen that ship genuine TY's and ship to Puerto Rico. Supermedia does site to Puerto Rico though - just don't know if it's cost effectie for you.
Now the dye though - still the same great AZO.

Get the RitekG05 ..i've tried TYG's...they're ok but Ritek wins hands down.

Probably what I'm gonna have to do is start looking for free shipping promotions and have them sent to Orlando, FL where I have some relatives. Once there, they could send them via USPS which is dirt cheap. It's a bit of a trouble, but I think is the most economical way to get authentic quality media. I can no longer trust local dealers. They are too inconsistent.
