I was just playing around with my reset-switch ( the button part you push came off ) and I got it to turn on the PS2, then I took it off the switch and a black screen came. Now when I put it back in, there's no red light on the switch and the PS2 doesn't turn on, what's the problem?

V14 + Crystal Chip 1.2

The button came off? I'm not sure about a v14, but in earlier versions the reset and open/close buttons are molded out of one piece of plastic. Was the case open when you were playing around with it? I can't think of how that piece of plastic would prevent it from turning on.

Ya, the newer Slims are made so cheap. The case was open.

The reset-switch board is fine even though the button is off, I can realign it to turn on the PS2. And even though the button is off, the red LED should be shown, but it's not.

Check to make sure that the ribbon cable that connects to the switch is in all the way. Also, you might look into getting a replacement, they run only about $10. Is the open/close button still attached?

You mean the case? This is a Slim PS2, not a Fat one incase you were confused, lol

Ya. The turn on button is off though, but I can get it to work, but it just doesn't show the red LED which means there's something wrong. Also, the black screen must be a clue of somehow.

I was thinking that it was like a v12 or v13. So the red LED doesn't come on but the green one does? And what about the other for the open/close button? I need some more info about it.

No LED, and it doesn't turn on

I've got a replacement reset switch and cable that should come in 1 / 2 days.

There might be a problem with the small PCB that the switch is on, I think there is also a fuse for it that might be bad. Does the open/close button operate as normal? Without the LED on how do you know that it has turned on?

Well, before the black screen, the LED and everything was working and the PS2 was turned on, but when I took off the switch, the PS2 turned off, black screen, etc. Then I reinserted the switch and there's no LED and power.

It must think that it's in standby mode for some reason. Hopefully the new switch will take care of it.

Tried it, no powering on and no LED.

What do you think is the problem? I'm selling for parts now anyway, lol.

It's probably a fuse then, test them to see if one is bad.

First, check the glass one on the power supply board, just like old auto fuses. As for the others you need to find a diagram for their locations on the main board. This link has locations for a v12: http://www.psrtech.co.uk/ they're probably close to what you've got. They are usually like PS#. You need a multimeter to test them, use the ohms setting and check for continuity through the fuse.
