Try DVDFabDecrypter. I also ran into problems with it in DVD Shrink.
DVDFabDecrypter is a free download. Go to DVDIdle.com

maddog920,

Keeping it free....

Rip the video files to your hard drive using DVDfab decrypter, get it here...
http://www.dvdidle.com/DVDFabDecrypter29.exe

Once DVDFab is done, process the .vob files in the VIDEO_TS folder created by DVDFab thru a free and easy to use program called FixVTS to correct file structure problems. You can get it here along with instructions on use...
http://www.videohelp.com/~FixVTS/

Once FixVTS is done, open and process the files it fixed using DVD shrink and proceed as usual creating your backup. I suggest reauthoring the DVD to backup just the main movie and 5.1 AC3 english audio channel.

Here's a guide if needed..
How to use the reauthor mode in shrink

I've ripped with DVDFab Decrypter then I did a full disk backup using DVDShrink. It was that simple.

Does this happen with all DVDs you try to play with the dive or just that one?

I would first make sure the drive's firmware is upto date, to check what the current version installed is, you can use this utility. It will display the model# and firmware version installed;

http://flashman.rpc1.org/Firmware/DVD-CD_firmware_detect.exe

Once you know what version is installed, click on the link provided to check if an update is available, if so, just download and install it as instructed when running the update file.

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_search.php

Just enter the drive's model# in the search field, click on the update to get it if needed.

Make sure the disk is clean and not badly scratched.

It's possible that there maybe some thing digitally wrong with the DVD (like a bad press), if something is wrong with the disk it could cause problems with the drive when trying to read it, in this case you'll need another copy so try and exchange it if possible.

Make sure the drive is set to operate in DMA mode, here's a guide to check and change it if needed.

http://www.onthegosoft.com/dma_setting_nt.htm

If the drive seems to be acting funny, try uninstalling the IDE channel the drive is connected to, reboot the PC, the OS will detect it and reinstall it (the directions are also in the DMA check/change link above). Depending on how old the drive is, you might want to consider buying a new one (take a look at Plextor drives).

I actually had no problem with this movie using DVD Shrink. Oh yeah, I use AnyDVD also. I'm guessing that helped.
