I have an xbox that stopped working on me about a year ago. I found it recently and decided I'd try and fix it. The problem with it is it won't load up the MS Dash. The xbox powers on makes noises like its loading but the screen stays blue and doesn't give me an error. The LED on the front stays green and I can't open the DVD drive. My xbox is not modded but its an older one.

The only things I can find about similar issues deals with modded box's. If anyone has any ideas on what might be casuing this and how I can fix it that would great.

Thanks

in your case no.......i dont really need to go into detail but i will neways just so you know.....if you had modded your xbox and made a backup copy of your entire hdd then you could but you would have still had to buy a new hdd and go through the process of (installing a new hdd with a modded xbox) but you cant do anything cuz your box isnt modded and you cant mod it cuz it wont even boot....sorry but if you want to get it fixed just send it in or buy a new one

you cant copy your friends hdd becuse his isnt modded he would have to mod his for you to be able to do this (if he wants to then ill help you along the way but for now doesnt need explaining).....secondly that is a good idea you could put the hdd in your working xbox in the broke one and it should work but then in order to buy a new hdd and put it in your other xbox you would need to mod it after you put the working hdd in it....there are alot of steps to do this and ill explain it and help you along if you want me to

well at least theres something that can be done besides tossing it away. Now swapping out the hdd will that also fix the dvd drive issue? When I power on the xbox the dvd drive seems to be jammed. I press the eject button and the LED flashes as normal but the drive doesn't eject. I was thinking it was an issue with it and I might have to replace that too but again I'm just looking for some clairifcation on it.

Also I've got to say you've been a great help and its greatly appreciated thanks.

So I decided that I;m going to replace the hdd in my broken xbox. I have a hdd from and older pc that I no longer use.
When I was reading some info on swapping out the hdd it says that I need the EEPROM.BIN file from my broken xbox. I was wondering if I could use the EEPROM.BIN from my working xbox or if this is even necessary. I was planning on modding the new hdd right away if thats possible.

you cant use another eprom key, they are birthed sort of speak when put together, motherboard and hdd together! with your old hdd, have you tried to do a hotswap with it? i never read the entire thread, so dont yell if you have! lol, if you have and it wont hotswap, then your hdd is dead! your only , i mean only option is a modchip, if you cant solder, then i recomend buying solderless, i have a xecuter 2.6 solderless and it works great! i also used slayers auto installer which is great as well!

I haven't touched my broken xbox yet. When it crapped out on me last year I just went bought another one. I just found the broken one the other day when cleaning out some stuff. I have a spare 10 gig hdd lying around and I was just wanting to see if I could mod it and swap it in the broken unit.

no way of doing a softmod?
I was reading something on lamma that says I need a linux boot disk or something? just trying to find an easy solution to fix this so my daughter can use it.

I seen that on a different thread.
I was able to pull the c and e drives from my working softmodded xbox so I can make a backup dick to load on the spare hdd but thats when I came to the EEPROM.BIN issue.

you are out of luck because you need the eeprom bin from the original motherboard and hard drive, with a modchip, you can get away with out it because when you put the new hdd in, it goes in unlocked, load slayers auto installer or what ever installer you perfer, then use that installer to lock the hdd! then you can ftp into it, then make a back up of the key! but, without the key, its next to impossible!

I would recommend trying to trick a walmart, jsut tell tehm you bough it there two months ago and it stopped working. Trade it, and never go back agian, and dont give your real name.
