I have a problem with text entry on my PSP v2.7

I just purchased a PSP, ran the network update and upgraded to 2.7, mainly because I'm not interested in hacking this particular PSP. It's an anniversary present for my wife. But I'm getting off the subject.

When I try to enter text in any mode but URL, it adds spaces to the text entry box until it's full. If the text entry mode is URL, it works ok, except I can't change the letter to the next one on the phone keyboard style text entry system. When I do manage to get the letter to change, I try to scroll backwards using the L button and it jumps back to the end of the line of characters. I called Sony tech support, and even they can't figure out what the problem is.

Everything else works perfectly, except text entry. And it would be nice for my wife to be able to view web pages if she wants to. I don't know what to do short of returning it, but I'm trying to avoid that if at all possible. Anyone experienced this problem??

LMAO. No, my wife has been wanting one since she went in the Army, and now that we have the money to get her one, I bought it for her. Even I can't get the damn thing to accept text in any mode except URL. All it does is continually add spaces to the text box, like there's a stuck button, but all the buttons rebound when pressed. I'm wondering if there's a screwup in the code somewhere. It's more than a little annoying, because I can usually figure out what the problem is.

The Sony tech I talked to said they've never heard of this problem before, but I'm wondering if it's at all possible that the update to 2.7 was corrupted while I was downloading it; I used my wireless connection like an idiot instead of downloading it to one of my hardwired computers and installing it through a USB connection. If there's no error checking, it's possible that a packet was corrupted during the download that boned the install.

That being said, short of returning it or sending it to Sony, it's a $250 paperweight. And in my typical fashion, I can't find the receipt. LOL.

Oh, and my wife is a redhead. :D

I don't know what to tell you. What do you do when you're entering text to get to the next space? Are you hitting the R button? That's how you should enter text. Select a letter, then hit R. Keep doing that as you enter text. If you've already tried this, then yea - take the PSP back. Most places stand behind their product and will take it back w/o a receipt, esp if it's within the past week or so.

Another thing you can do is download the 2.70 Firmware eboot update again. Reinstall it and it should over write whatever is there a/f/a possible errors from one of the packets. Here's the link for the 2.70 update:

if 2.7 is already installed it wont even enter the update i dont think. i would suggest find the receipt or wait for 3.00 which should b soon

oh or u could get some1 2 hex 2.7 update so it says 2.8 or summin dat sony wont use and lower den 3 so u can still update later and then it will install 2.7 again (hopefully fixed) but ur psp will b a "2.8"
