I am trying to backup The Replacements and I am having no luck. If I try to Decrypt with DVD Shrink I get an error that says it can not read the file in the DVD Drive around the 4% mark. I can decrypt with DVD Fab and then run through VOB Blanker but I can not open with DVD Shrink. Says some thing about VTS file 01 06. I would not have thought this is a tough movie. I have looked at the disc but it does not appear scratched. Any thoughts?

If you have AnyDVD it'll tell you exactly what copy protections the disk has. I don't own that title so I can't check for you. I doubt it has anything special. Have you tried using Nero Recode instead of DVD Shrink? You could also try running the DVDFab output thru FixVTS instead of VOB Blanker. Have you tried just using DVD Decrypter to rip it and then using Shrink?

If you don't have AnyDVD, it has a free trial period, as well as a ripper that's part of the package.
If all fails, I would guess it's a slight defect in the disk that DVD players handle with their encoded error routines. Rippers are much more sensitive to errors. I'm assuming the disk plays OK in a player.

My AnyDVD trial has ended and I am only going to use free software. I have not used DVD Decrypter before. Can I still download DVD Decrypter from anywhere since it is no longer updated? Sicne it is no longer updated, I have only been using DVD Fab.

There's a link to DVD Decrypter in my previous post. It's the one from mrbass. Although the program is no longer updated, it still works very well for anything that doesn't have the newest copy protection. The Replacements was released a long time ago so I don't hink it has any special protections. Clean your disk really well also.
Nero Recode has a free trial as part of the Nero suite of programs.

Are you using the latest version of DVDFab? If not you can get it here (DVDFab Decrypter 2.9.7.9 (05/26/2006)...
http://209.172.35.173/download/DVDFabDecrypter29.exe
VobBlanker should of corrected files structure issues, when you imported the VIDEO_TS,IFO file, did you make sure all VTS were going to be processed and nothing was marked as skipped (to prevent this from happening just click on the Proc.All button on the right side of blanker's window before processing the .IFO file).
If shrink still has a problem with that .VOB file, you can try processing that specific .VOB file thru a free program called FixVTS, it corrects file structure problems to make the video files more DVD compliant which makes DVD shrink happy:)
Get FixVTS here (ver 1.25);
http://www.videohelp.com/~FixVTS/
Read the simple instructions on using it.....
Just drag and drop the problem .vob file into the bottom window and let FixVTS do its thing to correct any issues with it.
Note: You can also process all .vob files as well

Try Nero Recode instead of Shrink. If that works then something is up with your copy of Shrink.
Try uninstalling Shrink and then restarting and then doing a fresh install of Shrink.
If you have any virtual DVD software like Nero ImageDrive, Daemon Tools, or Alcohol120%, rip an ISO with DVD Decrypter, mount the ISO file as a virtual DVD, and see if that plays correctly. If it does, it's a Shrink problem.

I ran the file through the FixVTS and then opened the new file with Shrink. It seems like it is going to work as Shrink opens the file and analyzes. But the analysis stops around the 50-60% mark and get the following error from Shrink: DVD Shrink Encounter and Errorand Cannot Continue. Programming Error-Exception Occurred. The Parameter is Incorrect. And the I click ok and Shrink shutdowns.
Anybody know what this error means and why I am getting it or how to fix it? I did not get this error before running the file through the FixVTS program.

Try Nero Recode instead.
Uninstall and then do a new download and installation of DVD Shrink.
Did you buy this so that you could take it back and exchange for another copy?
Have you tried ripping and using Shrink on any other titles in the meantime?

Shrink is working fine with all other titles. I bought this copy a couple of years ago, so I will not be able to return. I will try Nero Recode if free.

Programming Error - Exception occurred - The Parameter is incorrect
This error can occur in the encoding stage of DVD Shrink. It can occur after ripping a DVD in ISO mode with DVD Decrypter v3.5.4 or lower and opening the DVD by File-->Open Disk Image (Ctrl-I).
Rip the DVD again but this time in File Mode (using DVD decrypter), ripping All Files. Open the DVD in DVD Shrink by clicking Open Files (Ctrl-O).
here's a guide for ripping with DVD decrypter if needed;
http://www.dvdshrink.info/dvd-decrypter.php
Process the files accordingly with shrink.
If you just can't get this movie to copy, as stated above there may be something digitally wrong with it (bad press), just because it plays well in a player doesn't mean that there's nothing wrong with the disk..
